Birlea Rio Bed - Wood, Waxed Pine, Double

I bought the small double bed for son #3 and it is great. The bed is easy to assemble with a good quality finish. I liked it so much that I ordered another one for son #1. However, I made a mistake and ordered the small double instead of a double. I contacted the seller and the order was changed for the same price as a small double! Efficient customer service and speedy delivery.

Delivered the bed frame next day, good prompt service, but NO mattress. It was another week before the mattress came as the people had delivered it somewhere else. Anyway bed easy to erect for me, a mum who has to do everything round here. A bit rickety, thought it would be made of sturdier stuff but then again it only cost £80 so what did I expect. My six feet six 18yr old son is happy with it though his feet hang over the end, which is why I ordered a bed with no end to it. The mattress when it came was very nice and firm and comfy. This bed looks good in his room and up to now has stood up to him and his little brother brawling across it at times. I

Initially thought this was great value for money but on reflection really disappointed with it now. Although it's described as solid wood, the headboard is actually made of cheap quality pine sheets that are slatted together and give in somewhat when you lean your head back on it. As per other reviewers, after 6 months of (light) use we are experiencing many squeaks and creaks now. I have tightened (not overtightened!) the screws on a few occasions but there is only so much this can be done as the screws screw directly into the wood and the threading on the soft wood will wear away. The slats to support the mattress are too few in my opinion, they are spaced out to the point that there is a gap of at least 6 inches between each one, so not sure how well this will treat our good quality mattress long-term, should it last longer than a couple of years! I personally would not recommend this bed. Pay a bit more and get something more durable. A good bed and in turn a good night's sleep is a sound investment.

Great beds. I bought one for the main bedroom and its great. So good in fact I bought a second for my daughters room. They are very well made, look much more expensive than they are and are fairly quiet when engaged in fairly strenuous bed type activities.

Found 3 splits in the wood, one quite major one that ran through the drill holes on the bedhead corner support post. One of the pieces of wood that the manufacturer had attaced to the side rails was upside down with a groove in it making it difficult to srew slats in. Also 3 slats were to big had to put them in the middle and try to bend side bars to accommodate. I also had issues with the bolts, unusual size heads, had to file down spanner to get it to fit and the threads on them were poorly formed and difficult to align strait without them cross threading all the time. Always considered myself quite good at flat pack furniture but this was a challenging build. When it was eventually up with the mattress on it felt sturdy and solid. I just don't trust the deep split on the supporting leg so have arranged refund.

I don’t often leave reviews however I feel this is needed. I read so many negative reviews on this bed before I bought it but I purchased the bed anyway because I know you do get what you pay for. I shouldn’t have rushed into this one. The headboard topend is completely split all the way down and the wood is incredibly weak, once together my partner sat on it to see what the mattress purchased alongside it was like, sure enough we heard a loud crunch to the wood below him and discovered this mattress, although memory foam is very thin. I made the decision not to return it because of the many issues I had with the courier (UPS) never had anything through them before and will avoid at all costs in the future!! I work in transport for DHL and I know what a good level of service should be. From the first attempt to the final I had so many issues, all automated, difficult to get anywhere on their complicated website and a couple of late days to work waiting for the above! My toddler has had to share our bed since last Thursday too as it was purchased for him. I can’t complain about the seller I never bothered to contact them but to anyone reading this now, do not buy!!!! It’ll be wood for our fire soon enough I am confident. My hard earned money straight down the drain and complete regrets.

Well made. Certainly need two people to put together - and it took us an hour but we are limited at this sort of thing. Looks great now and is comfortable.

This a nice sturdy bed for this price! Im happy with this purchase. Delivery was quick and they texts with and fixed date with times also called an hour before delivery.so a five star 🌟
