Fun 80s slasher for any horror movie enthusiast
Listening to the Land of the Creeps podcast. This film was reviewed by one of the hosts, it was an episode about slashers, specifically the 1980s.The hosts were so delighted to discuss this film, I felt curious about the movie. So I was pleased that Amazon had it available with a decent price. Quick turnaround, it arrived 2 says later. So I was able to indulge.Gregamortis, Dave and Bill from LOTC would be glad that I added this hidden gem of a slasher to my collection.Definitely a recommendation, sit back, relax the brain and get ready for entertainment with a killer soundtrack.

Low quality and unengaging
I ironically enjoy watching bad movies due to their unintentional hilarity. This is not that kind of movie. This is just an uninspired, and unfinished boring film. Unless you are a fan of the 80's rock/horror genre, it is not worth a watch.

Unfinished film with a mini-doc about dogs after the end credits???
Yup, the others are correct, this is simply a VHS-rip, so the quality is just bad. However, I could forgive the quality if the movie wasn't so bad. No, not so bad, simply unfinished. SPOILERS ahead. Though, there's honestly nothing to truly spoil.I thought the movie would be about a rock singer that comes back from the dead to kill people, but the movie instead opens in a completely inexplicably manner with a band rehearsing, everything is going swell and then the lead singer leaves the studio, walks back inside and kills a couple of people for ZERO reason. It then jumps two years later saying he's dead--though this was never shown at the beginning. In fact, in the beginning he escapes...?So now, the movie slows to a crawl as this guy "comes back from the dead", though there's ZERO context as to him coming back from the dead as he's dressed/looks/acts the same he did at the beginning and it never showed him die. From here, not a lot happens until the very end when everyone's on stage and Billy--the villain--gets hit in the head with a guitar and just keeps singing... And then the movie ends...? What? The movie simply isn't finished. It jumps around with no context, does nothing compared to what the awesome cover suggests and in the weirdest part... Has a strange mini-documentary about dogs and hobos (?) tacked on the DVD after the closing credits... Honestly, I didn't even listen to it as I was fast-forwarding because the time code said that--even though Rocktober Blood ended--that there was still 20 minutes of post-credit content. What on Earth were they thinking?

8 bucks is not a terrible price if you don't own a VCR
the 2016 DVD release listed here is a print on demand DVR with a custom label. no real upgrade in quality from the VHS. that being said, 8 bucks is not a terrible price if you don't own a VCR.

I should have known better
Such a horrible film. Some people like that type of stuff. Bit this was so bad I figured I might as well just take my glasses off and pray I forget what I was seeing. Don't buy it

The first film to fuse slasher horror with heavy metal
A Los Angeles metal band loses its vocalist after he goes mad in the studio. Two years later the new group is successful with a female singer (Donna Scoggins), but the specter of the former vocalist haunts them… literally. Could it be that he’s still alive and their lives are in danger?“Rocktober Blood” (1984) mixes horror and heavy metal in the mold of the great “Trick or Treat” (1986), the entertaining “Shock ’Em Dead” (1991) and the decent "Black Roses" (1988). It’s not quite as good as those, but it’s the first of its kind and definitely superior to Jon Mikl Thor’s “Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare” (1987) (which has to be cut some slack since it only cost a paltry $53,000).The opening 25 minutes and ending 25 minutes are quite entertaining for this type of flick, but the entire midsection — about 40 minutes — needed better writing/suspense to keep the viewer's interest. As it is, it’s just boring stalking scenes in the woods or in a house with a phone ringing, not to mention the obligatory dig-up the grave sequence. The singer of the band is actor Tray Loren, who looks like Mike Reno of Loverboy. He lip-syncs songs written by the real-life group Sorcery, the members of whom appear as drummer, bassist and two guitarists of the fictional band Headmistress. Sorcery can also be heard/seen in the 1978 flick "Stunt Rock," but I think their material for "Rocktober Blood" is superior to their older stuff, at least the songs "I'm Back" and "Killer on the Loose,” which are top-of-the-line for this style of early 80’s hard rock/metal.The Pat Benatar-like Donna Scoggins is not only the protagonist, but also the focus of the camera in regards to feminine allure with the exception of her two aerobics work-out pals. She’s a’right (and appears nude a couple of times), but IMHO she’s easily the least appealing of the three. While this isn’t quite on the level of “Trick or Treat,” “Shock ’Em Dead” or even “Black Roses,” it’s decent enough if you’re in the mood for colorful early 80’s slasher meshed with 80’s metal. It’s way superior to “Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare” and must be given props for being the first of its kind. Just persevere with the tedious midsection. The movie runs about 1 hour, 30 minutes, and was shot in Hollywood and Lake Tahoe.GRADE: B-

SUCK! i get absolutely mad everytime i get fooled ...
SUCK!i get absolutely mad everytime i get fooled with a (m.o.d.) inferior cdr crap product.....I am very ready to pay for music, movies etc. but i demand a factory manufactured DVD, CD etc. Don't rip people off with this homade junk. This is the VERY reason why people download illegal stuff. They get sh%t for their money. Deliver the ''goods'' or do not ever whine about piracy again. We can easily make our own garbage at home for a 100 times less the price. Great movie though!
