Grey Pneumatic(1708SN 1/2" Drive 8-Piece 12-Point Spindle/Axle Nut Socket Set

Beat on these everyday! They've held on so far! No complaints!

I worked as a professional mechanic for twenty years and have an extensive collection of hand tools. I still work on vehicles on the side, but do not want to spend the kind of money Snap-on and Matco charge for high quality tools. A technician at a tire shop recommended Grey Pneumatic tools as a replacement, and after showing me how well some of his two year old sockets were holding up, i decided to buy some of their products. I bought the 1708SN Axle Socket Set and two of their "extra deep 1/2" drive sockets". I am VERY impressed at how they have performed during a front end overhaul on an expedition, and 1993 nissan pickup truck! The sockets are very precisely forged, they show next to no wear, and even the plastic case the set came in is well designed and durable. I will keep buying this brand as i need to, and would recommend them to professionals and DIYers alike!

They seem to be manufactured well. I've used them once and am looking forward to using them again. Anytime you do some suspension work - you will need larger sockets for the spindle nuts....usually sizes you don't have. For years, I grabbed the closest standard size hoping that I wouldn't mess up a nut. No worries now. I'm happy with the purchase. If I did this for a living as I used to - I might have looked at a more expensive set from Snap On etc....but they would have been 3-4 times the money.

Value for what you get is incredible. I try to keep my sockets all USA, but I could not find a manufacturer that made 12 point axle nut sockets domestically except for one. They are priced at 50 per socket, which I could not justify. Grey makes a very nice quality socket. My only complaint would be they're not stamped with the size, only etched. Not a big deal, they're not everyday users for me. Taiwan quality is very good, compared to other imports.

These are tough sockets...plain and simple. They have the same warranty as the big three (Snap-On, Mac and Matco) and my truck guy warranties them just the same as well. If there ever were to be a Zombie Apocalypse, you can always throw these (aim for the head) and take them out. No complaints so far and I highly doubt there will be any.
