Great Paintings: The World's Masterpieces Explored and Explained (DK History Changers)

Can I give it 10/5 stars? I bought the hardcopy (as it is necessary that a book this well done be bought in hardcopy), and I cannot get over how beautifully it’s been made. Exactly what I was looking for to learn about great art, their significance and a bit about their creators. This is chronologically organised and informative. Would make an absolutely wonderful gift! I bought it for myself to appreciate and learn in more depth about great paintings.

It is proving interesting for a student about to start an A level art course.

Bought this amazing book for my father who has graduated from an art academy! He was over the moon to receive this well presented and well written book with great paintings as he loves Art :) But he said that almost all of the paintings in this book are inside of the other art books :D Makes a perfect gift for a perfect price! 5* I would only change a front hard cover picture on it to the other painting and not that stool.. P.s. Me personally-I found only two paintings that I liked. This book could be good for art lessons at school.

The detailed description takes you to the painting. Each painting is described in such detail that you learn a lot about the painting and its author. I definitely recommend it.

Interesting book with good explanations everybody understands

I was looking for a book like this for a long time. A comprehensive compilation that is fun to just pick and read randomly during your down time. Quality of the paper and the material is too good. I already have other books from DK publishers, will definitely buy more of these.

I am using this book with my kiddos for our art history homeschool lessons. I love the format. Each painting is featured with a bit of background information about the painting and the artist. Then the book offers an upclose look at various features of the painting. My kids love looking at the paintings, and I love that the format makes teaching so much easier for me! No more digging around for information about the art. Everything that I need to get started is right there!

Unfortunately I have to return the book because the corner got bashed in transit. It was in a sturdy envelope, but being an art book it is heavy and a corner got knocked (and creased) so the book isn't good enough to give as a present, as I had intended. Such a shame Amazon doesn't treat art books more carefully. The book itself is great content-wise.
