Magnesium is one of the more complicated mineral supplements for the average person to wrap their head around as it requires you do some math. The recommended allowance of Magnesium (RDA) is 240-420 mg depending on your age and sex. This amount is the recommended amount of *Elemental* Magnesium in the diet.There are various forms of magnesium supplements that have various percentages of Elemental Magnesium. The cheapest, Magnesium Oxide is about 60% Elemental Magnesium whereas Magnesium Taurate has only 9% Elemental Magnesium so 1500 mg Magnesium Taurate has about 135 mg Elemental Magnesium not 300 mg. The only way this product has 300 mg is if there is some form of Magnesium in it that has a higher percentage of Elemental Magnesium but it's not disclosed. It's most likely Magnesium Oxide as some other brands that claim 20% Elemental Magnesium do disclose it has Magnesium Oxide in addition to Taurate. Many of these supplement brands source from the same manufacturer.To make matters even more complicated, each form of Magnesium has different absorption rates.I measured the powder in these capsules at there's about 725-750mg of powder per capsule. That means 3 capsules has about 2,250 mg not 1500 mg of something. If Magnesium Taurate has 9% Elemental Magnesium and there is 1500 mg of that 2,250 is indeed Magnesium Tuarate as shown on the label, then that would be 135 mg Elemental Magnesium so we need 165 more mg Elemental Magnesium to reach the 300 mg the label is claiming. 275 mg Magnesium Oxide = 165 mg elemental Magnesium. 1500+275 = 2,275 mg of powder. Taa daa!So most likely these capsules have 1500 mg Magnesium Taurate and around 275 mg undisclosed Magnesium Oxide for 300 mg total Elemental Magnesium.Most likely the brand is basing their label off incomplete info the manfucturer has given them.
