Beginner's Guide to Bobbin Lace (Beginner's Guide to Needlecrafts)

I bought this book to help me understand lace making. Whilst it is very helpful with pictures., it does try to get the novice to run before they can walk. I did the first three projects, no problem , but then it got too complicated., it assumed enough had been learnt to move on to more difficult patterns. Instead of enthusing the beginner it just frustrates.. too much too soon.

That cloth stitch bookworm! Took one look at the pattern then chickened out till I find a tutor!

Love this book, very good for someone like me who wants to learn but can't find a teacher. Very good for a complete beginner as it literally tells and shows you each step for the projects in the book . The only issue is the binding as it doesn't lay open on it's own, wish it was available as a spiral bound book. I do not regret buying it though.

To introduce grandchildren to lacemaking. This book will give quicker and more useful results than my beginning.An updated

I have looked at a few lace books online and none really grabbed my attention but this one seemed to jump out at me. It has plenty of patterns inside though for the bigger projects you need to resize them so it would be better if they were ready to use/pull out. It is also nice to see a modern looking lace pattern book in colour

Purchased alongside the  House of Crafts Lacemaking Craft Kit  this book has excellent photographic instructions for the beginner and also contains much information on local variations in the tools of the craft. The patterns are more complex than in the kit but, with the more detailed instructions, present a more challenging and ultimately more satisfying project.Very well written and presented, this book is more likely to inspire one to continue in the craft and seek out better equipment than the kit.Recommended.

Ideal book to learn about how to start making lace and what is required

I found this a very helpful book as a complete newcomer to the craft of bobbin lace making. It gives clear instructions with helpful pictorial guides to the basics and provides prickings and instructions from the very beginning for making some attractive bookmarks as a way of introducing different stitches and the various skills needed as it works up to more complicated patterns.
