Valuable and useful insight into your dog's activity
I bought our PitPat on recommendation of a friend who used his to manage the daily activity of his working Cocker Spaniel. Initially we bought ours out of curiosity but when our dog Tolly began to fall ill as a puppy it was useful to be able to present a decline in his activity to the vet. Tolly was diagnosed with a form of meningitis which he suffered 7 times in his first year. Now symptom-free and in remission from the disease the steroid course had taken a toll and saw his weight go up from 26kg to 31kg. He was put on a weight management plan with a metabolic diet, but it was the exercise, combined with the information provided by the PitPat that made the difference. He lost 4kg in 6 weeks which the veterinary nurse just couldn't believe, but when I showed her the data from the PitPat on the phone app she was really impressed with it.PitPat is a brilliant product - so easy to use once set up, looks great (people often ask what it is), is super light-weight and very small so it doesn't get in the way of Tolly's activity. We have it attached to his harness, so it only records the formal exercise he does. He doesn't wear a collar because his fur is taking a long time to regrow after a lumbar puncture. We love the awards and badges Tolly picks up from PitPat in recognition of the work he is putting in and as a bit of a gadget geek I love the detail of the data provided. The accuracy of the device is of course difficult to gauge but in day-to-day comparisons it is easy to spot progress - and big achievements!

Simple to use and so useful for tracking activity
I have a 6 year old rescue Bischon Frise who is overweight and when I first got her she really did not like going out for a walk. I've dithered about whether to buy this or not but now wish I had bought one for her earlier. As the app suggests I took vet's advice regarding her weight and setting up her exercise goals.Being a small dog the activity tracker is great in that it's lightweight and fastened simply by velcro. She hasn't scratched or fiddled with her collar so it's clear she's not bothered by wearing it. The tracker is also waterproof which is a must for our weather! The benefit for me as an owner was this was so straightforward to set up in a matter of minutes and that included me working out how to add her photo! To look at the data, you choose "Fetch Data" from the app menu and then press the orange paw on the PitPat. I have had no problems with connection.I really like how simple this is, that it motivates you to keep on track (and in her case not to overdo it) and the encouraging messages and badges of achievement make me smile and give you a boost to keep the activity levels right. It's clever in that a friend brought her dog over and it detected the amount of play she had with the other dog on this day. There's clearly more to come with the app as "Food" is being developed and at the moment you have the option to give your views. There is no subscription cost with this but there is an offer of joining PitPat Life at £3.99 per month for some benefits. I haven't done this, so I can't comment on the value v cost, as it's something I am considering.I think this is really going to help me keep her weight loss programme on track which for me is a healthier dog and a happier companion.Recommended.

Accuracy isn't brilliant
This has been very useful while my dog has been recovering from an injury. I love being able to track how much exercise she is getting and to see how much she gets in the garden as well as out on walks. It's very robust and despite her habit of crawling through undergrowth chasing rabbits it has stayed firmly on her collar. It's dead easy to use. It would be much better if you could use the app to send a signal to it to get data rather than having to press the button on the device. This would mean I could remotely check how much exercise she's had with a dog walker before she is returned home. Also I track my own walking with an apple watch and it always says I have walked further than her, even though she has been zigzagging on the walk. She definitely walks further than me but it seems to underestimate her exercise. But other than that it's a great product.

Great way to track the dogs activity
Having a puppy, we wanted to make sure he was getting the right amount of exercise. This gizmo and it's app are great.Simply touch the button and the data is uploaded within secondsThe app itself runs a little slow, but the amount of info is great. Play, sleep, pottering and running are very accurate. It's neat and hardly noticeable on his collar. Well worth it.

Just hopeless
I got this because I was interested to see what actual mileage my dog does. In the first few days the mileage was all over the place, and clearly crazy--- it had her walking for 60 minutes one day and covering 33 miles! I got in touch with them and they replied promptly, saying it was a temporary glitch that they were aware of, and told me to delete that account, and start again, which I did. It hasn't said she's walked 33 miles again, but it way over estimates mileage, and is now even getting the time she is active wrong, although that was fairly accurate to begin with. She comes to work in an outdoor job with me so is busy all day, as well as having an actual walk of at least an hour, but I consistently get ridiculous results like a total of 60 minutes, walking,no running or playing, which she does a lot, and that is 9.7 miles! No dog could WALK 9.7 miles in 60 minutes. You can fine tune the mileage, but only up or down, and you would have to know how many miles she was covering to be able to do that, and the whole point of getting the thing was to find out how far she was going. Pretty pointless anyway since it'e even getting the timing wrong. She's a youngish dog with an average stride and activity for her breed, so nothing that they shouldn't have been able to apply. Waste of money.
