I purchased a new pet fountain because I didn't like that the old one used carbon filters that always seemed to leak carbon "dust" into the water. The water fountain was always stained black by the carbon coming out of the filters. I tried rinsing the old carbon packets, and soaking them, but nothing changed. So I switched fountains and LOVE these carbon filters. They seem to do the job and there isn't carbon residue on the fountain any longer. I am very satisfied with these carbon filters.

Necessary to keep fountain working

A must for the water fountain, my girls (cats) dink lots of water now.

These worked well enough for what they were, but I think my cat fountain lasted about three weeks before I chucked it in the garbage (and threw away these supplies I bought in advance at the same time).The cat didn't drink anymore from the fountain than from a bowl, and dealing with cleaning that fountain got old fast.I did it, because I wouldn't want to be drinking water that had been in contact with built up slimy surfaces, but it's absolutely impossible to clean the insides of the pumps thoroughly (or even adequately), so I gave up -- especially after I did it one Sunday morning and over the week of the next Sunday morning I hadn't actually seen the cat drink from the fountain once (he prefers to follow along in the garden and lick water off leaves while I'm watering).Too much work and impossible to clean adequately, so my fountain experiment was shortlived and is now taking up landfill, along with several of these filters bought in advance and unused.I think we're all fooling ourselves if we think these impossible to clean adequately fountains are really good for cats, but I'm giving a decent review because the filters seemed to do their job, it was the impossibility of actually cleaning that pump design adquately that was the real issue.
