Prepare Your Heart for the Midnight Cry: A Call to be Ready for Christ's Return

Word and Spirit
I've known people who are so led by the Spirit, but hardly know their way around the Bible (I used to fall into this category). I've known people who are theologians and insist their only interaction with God is in scripture, completely discounting the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Both, are a bit unbalanced, and this book explains the urgency of knowing the Lord in a balanced way, through both His Word, AND His Spirit! Good read.

Don't Read if You Don't Want to Woke Up
I am a believer in Christ's soon return. Matthew 24 is Christ's word to the disciples about what the times would look like before He returns the second time, and Matthew 25 is what God's people look like before He returns. Kendall is passionate about a people ready for Jesus to come. How can we say we are Christians, and not be ready for Jesus' return, or even care when it happens? This book will wake you up, and stir your heart.

This is a very eye-opening book about what is going ...
This is a very eye-opening book about what is going to happen in the future for the body of Christ. Many are waiting for events to unfold but this book says the wise prepare themselves with the help of the Holy Spirit. The bride makes herself ready. I am most grateful for this book.

We must have both the Word and the Spirit
R.T. inspired me to know God's word better and seek to hear the Spirit clearer, so in case this is the "End of Days," I will not be caught without oil and a lamp for mt feet.

This may well be an excellent read and a timely message
This may well be an excellent read and a timely message, that is when you finally get to the meat of it, because in my Kindle version by the time you get to the first proper page, you have waded through pages of reccomendations from various christian names, prefaces, introductions, forewards etc meaning that by the time you actually reach the first page 11% of the book is already gone, all the hype in these pages for me simply makes me feel were they nor there the price may be a little less. I find it tiresome when publisher pad a book out with endless pages of unnecessary material, and would rather open the book, read the contents, and get straight to page 1. That apart I have enjoyed the main part of the book, and will glean lots from it.

Controversial
RT writes "I realise that for many people reading this book it will be new teaching for them". And this is exactly the problem in that his interpretation of the parable of the wise and foolish virgins is based on his understanding that the lamp symbolizes the Word of God and the Oil being the Holy Spirit even though this is not explicitly stated by Jesus. RT then deduces that the foolish virgins must therefore be once enlightened Christians who have lost their passion for the gospel and are no longer able to discern the voice of God. RT states that while these believers will not lose their salvation and will go to heaven, they will lose their inheritance or reward, will not be invited to the banquet and will be told by Christ that He never knew them! All of which left me scratching my head as obviously the foolish virgins are entering some sort of impoverished place of purgatory also called heaven!!! Apart from this muddled line of theology in my opinion, there is otherwise plenty for the reader to chew on and RT's intention being for the reader to draw closer to God by praying more and reading one's Bible with increased regularity is worthy of persevering with the book. To both types of Christian, the wise and the foolish virgin, RT cautions that some calamitous worldwide event is going to happen very soon that will result in the biggest revival since and even bigger than Pentecost which will precede the Second Coming. While using other Scripture to back up these claims the reader must decide for himself/herself whether or not the parable of the wise and foolish virgins is meant to be as literally interpreted as the treatment given by RT.

My one reservation is there is in my opinion too much unnecessary credits in the forward section
An interesting and challenging book, well written as one would expect from R.T. Kendall.I found that I couldn't just read it cover to cover instead I read a section and had to think through what I'd read.My one reservation is there is in my opinion too much unnecessary credits in the forward section.

A challenge to be ready for Jesus' second coming!
A interestingly provocative application of the parable of the ten virgins with particular application to the Pentecostal/Charismatic scene. The book is full of excellent exposition on eschatological themes but at time more discussion would have been appreciated.

2nd Coming of Christ
Kendall's interpretation of the parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25 is unsupported in Scripture and is false teaching. Spurgeon or Matthew Henry better theologians to be trusted on this parable of Christ's 2nd coming. A difficult read as so repetitive and lots of assertions that aren't borne out with any references in the Bible but just based on Kendall's vision. In short, appears book brought out to trade on fear of Covid-19 pandemic to prepare for End Times. Only merit is to consider if you are ready for Jesus returning again and to get one to check own understanding against trustworthy sources.
