Q: will they make my ears smell?

They have done that to me. There fun earrings. They screw off and on on both sides so be careful.

Q: Are these normal/standard thickness? I do not have gauged ears and want to make sure they'll fit.

Yes they are normal thickness for really well

Q: Are the posts long enough for an upper ear cartridge piercing?

18 pairs stud earrings post is 6mm long and can be used for cartilage earrings. And we use a flat back design, you can take it with you when you sleep. With vacuum plating, you don’t need to take them off for washing.

Q: can they be worn in the shower without doing damage to the earrings?

I never had a problem with them. I wear them in the shower all the time.
