These two shows are fantastic. If you love vampire diaries then you already know the cast of this show. I watch them in order together but you don’t need too. You can watch this show on its own and it’s great. Vampires werewolf’s and witches! So much fun!!!

The pilot opener for the first season of The Originals has an incredible start to what I'm hoping will continue to grow in intensity and excitement throughout many, many more seasons to come! The show picks up in New Orleans, recaps and builds from an episode in The Vampire Diaries 4th season. Only, this episode is incredibly more detailed and intense! I simply cannot wait until next week! Although I'll still enjoy watching The Vampire Diaries series, I'm unashamedly admitting just how much more I'll be looking forward to seeing The Originals in comparison to it.Although, this is a spin-off from The Vampire Diaries, where most of its main characters were teens preparing for high school graduation, The Vampire Diaries storyline material is what'd made the show appealing enough for many adults over 30; such as myself. And, if you're a regular viewer or a 'fan' of the show, then I'll assume you already know who the 'Originals' are. The Originals are the very first vampire family from The Vampire Diaries. However, even if you've never seen The Vampire Diaries, The Originals is so good, it can stand as its own separate series apart from The Vampire Diaries.I feel The Originals is more of an "adult version" of The Vampire Diaries, therefore, I HIGHLY recommend this new series to the adult ...BUT...taking into consideration of the show 's considerably more adult material, ie., violent scenes, & stronger subject matter; as a parent to a 13 year old daughter, I personally, would strongly discourage children of that age group, not to see The Originals until they're a bit older...

I don't watch TV series or dramas especially ones like this. BY random chance I ended up watching the Originals and, okay, I watched every season. This show shocked me, sure it has all the annoying elements of a TV serial and a pattern to it that you can figure out quickly and understand, generally, what is going to happen. You watch this series for the characters. The characters have quality and are multi-faceted, I was drawn in. The core of the story is the relationships of the characters and their bonds, flawed and intense, and I found something beautiful it in, especially that this was about a family--- not a teenage romance. The characters here are older, they're adults. Yes, it has romance, but it always returns to what it began as, the story of a family. At times, this series produces lines that are far beyond the quality expected of such a TV drama, especially one about Vampires. I have never watched any such show, including the show it spawned from (Vampire Diaries) and I never had any problems following what was going on. Klaus is my favorite character. I have actually watched this season several times, I liked watching it more than once, I think that speaks loudly for the characters and quality.

Absolutely my favorite out of TVD trilogy. Hubby decided to watch all 3 series with me, but loves this one as well.

Love this series so much my original copy started skipping and freezing on some discs so it was time to replace my original set. Who does not love a clean copy of The Originals ?

Very late to the party. I watched The vampire diaries very recently with my 15-year-old niece... romantic and fun little teenage drama, I enjoyed it. The originals, however, is a very well done series with a grown up feel. Anyway I'm enjoying it very much I just finished season 1 and about to start season 2. The acting is stupendous for this type of a series.. wow. My only real question is why the heck didn't they develop Hayley into a more meaningful character.. I mean I couldn't care less about her but it would have been nice to get an idea of what the heck Elijah is so attracted to in her other than she's a cute girl that's pregnant with his brothers baby. Other than that she's of absolutely no interest.

Excellent series. Much fun. Awesome characters I've wanted to get to know better for a long time. Love the conflicts between the character, and with Mikael. It's almost reminiscent of the Greek myths of the Gods. Cronos the destroyer stalks the world to destroy his children the gods. Love how they flashed back and I was able to see Mikael again. I thought they really didn't do justice to his malevolence in The Vampire Diaries, He almost seemed heroic, saying he wouldn't feed off innocent people and wanted to kill, then-archvillain Klaus. Add this to his kind words and gentle nature and he seemed like a nice, reasonable man.In this series, we really got to see why Rebekah was so afraid of him. He truly was the king of monsters.The rest of the series is fantastic. I was overjoyed by the vampire kingdom, as I've always been on their side. I never knew such a paradise could exist. It was wonderful. Sophie was great too, toward the second half. They took a bland and unimportant character and made her this tragic figure, trying to set right what once went wrong and all that good stuff.I really enjoy the different factions in the story. I love how everything is new and interesting in such a familiar world. They really did a great job with this show. It's a perfect example of what a spin-off should be.A five out of five.
