Review Praise for Angel (by Colleen McCollough):‘exhilarating, engrossing and thought-provoking, and hard to put down.’ York Evening Press‘Refreshing, with all the verve and dash of youthfulness, Angel is also a cleverly plotted, sinewy story, which provides a satisfying twist at the end.’ Irish ExaminerPraise for Colleen McCullough:'Compelling, passionate and gritty.' Good Book Guide'McCullough piles on the drama.' Daily Mail'Sizzling family drama stuffed with passion, tragedy, love and sex.' More'Absorbing.’ Sunday Telegraph'Deliciously addictive…a classic tale of wealth and power – an engrossing read.' Sainsbury's magazine Synopsis The bestselling author of THE THORN BIRDS returns with a novel of laughter, passion and more than a little magic ! 1960, Sydney's Kings Cross. Harriet Purcell leaves her conventional, respectable home and respectable, passionless boyfriend and moves into a rooming house owned by Mrs. Delvecchio Schwartz. There, Harriet finds a life she relishes -- excitement, adventure and passion. Mrs. Delvecchio Schwartz makes a living from telling fortunes, and is mother to 4-year-old Flo. Beautiful little Flo is mute, and Harriet comes to love her as if Flo were her own -- and must protect her at all costs when tragedy strikes! Angel is Colleen McCullough at her vintage best, drawing on her own experiences of living in the Cross in the 1960s and writing of a world that has long gone. Most of all, it is a tale of a woman's love for a child, and what she is prepared to endure to ensure her survival. See all Product description

Wonderful, Colleen McCullough doesn't let you down with this one!
Why did this book have to end? I could have carried on reading about the inhabitants of 'The House' forever! What a lovely novel, if you are sensitive just skip the references to brothels and ladies of the night, because this book is too lovely not to read!

A strange but enjoyable read
Different but intriguing. I prefer her books of earlier eras, and enjoy relating to areas of Australia I know vaguely.

Great read
Refreshing story, full of interesting characters. I cared about the characters, especially Flo, which is always a sign of a good book. It had all the ingredients to warrant a sequel as I was left at the end wondering how the characters developed. I loved the Thorn Birds and I loved this. Would definitely recommend it.

A bit different.
I quite enjoyed this book, it was a bit different. Not sure why it is called Angel as that was a sort of strange sideline to the story - I felt. Nonetheless it was a good book once I'd got into it.

Disappointed
I have enjoyed many of Colleen McCullough's books in the past but not this one. Perhaps the fault is mine. I don't care for books written in a diary format

A thoroughly good read; I very much enjoyed it
A thoroughly good read; I very much enjoyed it. Ms McCullough is a prodigious writer. This is the second of her books I've read, and like the first I found it was almost impossible to put down. An excellent story of love in most unusual circumstances.

Different
I found this story to be strange the way it wove together. It is a very complex story of twists and turns. I couldn't see where it was going felt a bit lost at times but it all came together in the end not at all what you think.
