Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis (Welcome to the Sticks) 2-DVD Collector's Edition [French with English subtitles]

Straightforward and funny, exploring class and regional differences with basic humour. Worth a watch if you are in the mood, or working on your French, and there’s a couple of perfect bits… nothing special though.

Watched it for entertainment and to keep my knowledge of the language alive. It wasn’t really funny and would not recommend to anyone unless they have a twisted sense of humour!!

If you're fed up of all these American or British so-called Hilarious films which they never are then this could be the film for you. Ch'tis is a nice story with likeable characters, good actors, well filmed, and real humour. It's a warm and sometimes touchy story of almost real people, you can identify with and you've probably met in real life and obviously humorous too. You could even have experienced some of the situations they get involved in and that makes it really humoristic, of course a little exaggerated as humour is. Anyone who's worked and lived away from home can even identify him or herself with the feelings and experiences. Even if you don't speak French the subtitles are really good and bring the humour across. It has some similarities with "Rien a declarer" but as a film it's much better, more subtle and in my experiences almost real life humour. The language is French only but subtitles are in French and English, so it's good if you speak some French or none at all. Just buy it and enjoy a nice relaxing film and put a smile on your face.

Danny Boon films are a treat and it is a shame such films do not go on general release in the UK.Welcome to the Sticks was sgown at our local film society and ended up topping the chart for Season 2010-2011.It is a comedy essentially about dialects as our post office manager hero is sent not to a posting his wife wants in the riviera but way up north where all the locals believe it is almost like being sent to say Iceland.Of course once he masters the 'Sch' quirk in the dialect he finds it is not as bad as it was made out to be.He has inherited some interesting staff characters and the film follows his career whilst still pretending to his wife and friends back home that they were right.If you are a fan of french farce this is a good little box-set.

This is a funny movie in a sort of simple, knockabout way. Unfortunately the subtitles are terrible. A lot of the humour at the beginning comes from the southern character being unable to understand the dialect of the northern characters, and the subtitles try to convey that but do it in such a heavy-handed, stupid way throughout the whoile film from start to finish in a way that sort of ruins the humour of the movie. I speak French reasonably well, but still needed the subtitles in places to help me follow conversations, but I could tell the subtitles were a) wrong, but also b) were making the characters sound like bumbling bumpkins through the whole movie when most of the time they were speaking reasonably normally.
