Another classic in the continuing series
Once again the authors of this exciting list-based literary experiment have come up with a patient-pulling pill-popper's pleasant ramble through the British Pharmacopoeia. As usual the sub-text requires rigorous examination to extract the best of the literary experiment that is the BNF series. We begin with an apparently deadly-dull preface but soon are in the thick of it, the chapter on the CNS arriving cheekily early (I find it worth referring back to the editions from the 1990's for dialectical comparison.) Notably, the Dental Pharmacopoeia right at the back; I mean, what is that about? The very front of the person, the mouth, is deliberately placed, as it were in the anus of the book. Page 144 holds our hopes and dreams however; Morpheus in her various guises appears as the dominant character as usual but what is this? A new entrant in the form of Modafinil, one of the so-called 'smart set'. I shall not spoil the story for the reader, suffice it to say another indispensable dispenser.Francis Cook

THE Guide to Prescription Medicines
Essential for GPs and pharmacists, this is also very handy for patients who understand medical terms, especially if your edition is more up-to-date than the one your GP is using!!!Older editions were stolen from a public library. I guess the thieves are also finding it useful.Since buying it I have successfully suggested 2 prescription changes for myself, and given family members more information about medicines they use.
