Invaluable Experience of People Who Build AND Live In a Tiny Home
This was a very enjoyable read! This book tells Joshua and Shelley's journey of going tiny and the headaches and hiccups they got through a long the way. If you're still not sure living tiny is right for you, well they weren't either. It was encouraging hearing their process and what motivated them to take the leap. There is even a nice little quiz to help you analyze if you are ready to do the same. They walk you through all the basic steps: researching, analyzing your needs, downsizing, finding a good trailer foundation, the costs and work involved with DIY, design and layout, storage and organization, pets in a tiny space, getting along with others in close quarters, on-grid vs off-grid and more. They've been living in their tiny house for almost a decade, so they know what it's like, what works and what doesn't. And they love it so much they made a business out of building tiny homes and trailers, so you know they are passionate about the topic. Loved the full color photos too! Really helps you visualize how stunning and inviting such a small space can be. I would definitely recommend this book.

Great read to inform!
My wife and I was in the market to build a tiny house so we searched for a informative book. When I tell you we got the jackpot with this book I mean it. Josh and Shelley really let you into their mind as you start the process. Helping you to navigate not just the building process( what to look out for etc.) but also the downsizing process. This is a must read for anyone that is thinking of starting out on this adventure.

Low key, pleasant discussion of Tiny House issues
This is a pleasant read - mostly focuses on the headspace needed to live in a tiny home. It goes into a fair amount of depth about the author and spouses personal experience off why, how, when and the details of some of the design trade-offs they made in designing and building their tiny home. So it is a good book for someone who is curious about why one could decided to go tiny, and their personalvexperience of the result. Your experience might (will) vary, but the glimpse into their experience is enlightening. The book is a little repetitive and a little disorganized. Could have benefited from from some thoughtful editing. But again - a good starting point for someone curious about the experience .

Honest, Practical, and Encouraging
This is a must-read if you're thinking about going tiny, or wondering why people are doing it! Joshua and Shelley take you through their thought process as they started learning more about tiny houses while living in the SF Bay Area, and do an excellent job of boiling down to the heart of the issue. In the book they take you all through their tiny house, explaining how they designed it and why they built each of the features as they did. The minimalist movement is huge with tiny houses, but the Engbergs show how it's possible to still have room for the things you love and live tiny without having to become completely minimalist. Their practical advice--such as how to choose a trailer, how to downsize, which couch to choose, and what it's like to live with another person in such a small space--is honest, realistic, and well-written. And very encouraging! Highly recommend.

Very important buy for anyone looking at tiny houses.
This book is so important any who wants to go tiny should read this and if you can go to a tiny house festival. We even contacted the authors who live what they preach and are super nice people. Now that being said we actually got an amazing offer on a house that we are taking but my husband and I both applying some of the style and aesthetics into our new home. Everything we own needs to have multi purposes. We even went out and mapped out the square footage in our driveway on how big of a house we wanted. One day for our retirement we would love a tiny home and travel till than we will keep camping and keep traveling and working on our goals. Thank you Joshua and Shelly for making such an amazing book and for being their for your customer base!

I was really hoping this book stood out more than it did
I really wanted to like this book, but unfortunately, I felt it was a super-quick write that didn't provide much more information than what you could glean online or from common sense. At the time I bought this book because my family and I were living in California and considering moving into a tiny home. We watched the shows, read a lot of tiny home blog posts, and went to tiny home conventions. So, I was really excited to find this book was written by tiny home builders nearby. Unfortunately, I just didn't feel the book lived up to what it could have and was written quickly to market their company. There is nothing wrong with using a book to market your company, but writing a book for that purpose is a way to show off your company, and this can have consequences as well.Even a book about the basics should have more than just what I can find in a Google search and should probably go through another couple of rounds of editing. I did give three stars because the book does cover the basics and doesn't oversell themselves. But, compared to other basic books on Tiny Houses it doesn't quite stand up.

FANTASTIC WALK THROUGH the entire tiny house design and build process!
FANTASTIC WALK THROUGH the entire tiny house design and build process! Love the author’s own home featured in the book. What a well thought out design—and execution! The kitchen placement and layout completed with their accordion-window accent piece. Too much! When I do go tiny, for 1/2 year stretches, their home will be the vision I start with. Likely I’ll even buy my tiny house shell directly from one of their “Tiny Home Basics” outlets. They do ship to Canada! GREAT BOOK!! An honest look at going tiny!
