MAG1 seems to be a pretty good product and value
I'm new to synthetic oils but now that I’ve purchased a few “new to me” VW and Audi with 1.8L Turbo engines I have to run full synthetic to help prevent sludging. One of the cars I bought actually had a plugged oil pickup tube when I got it, there was massive coke build up (AKA: sludge).I did a little internet research on synthetics, Mobile one of course is the most popular and is approved for the VW Audi engines and it’s about the same price if not even cheaper at Costco or Walmart, if you don’t consider your time going to Costco/Walmart as valuable; it’s an hour + trip and a nightmare so that adds considerably to my “cost factor”. I also read a lot that Mobile one tends to consume fairly quickly and in these 1.8t engines with only 3.7 quart capacity you have to stay on top of it to ensure you don’t run low on oil. Several of these 1.8t VW Audi engines made around the year 2000 had a design flaw in that the oil pan sits over the lower subframe; therefore the oil pan is very shallow at on end reducing the capacity. Considering these are Turbo engines, the oil is worked pretty hard and starting a such a low capacity, if you lose/consume some oil (VW Audi tolerances allow for up to 1QT/1,000 miles as I recall, I could be wrong on that). Keep in mind with Oil change intervals over 5,000 miles if you are not checking your oil regularly you will quickly be running on low oil conditions which is even harder on the oil causing it to breakdown even sooner. From what I’ve read, MAG1 is produced by a reputable company who also makes Walmart’s house branded synthetic; I don’t know that these are and identical blend but… I read from multiple sources that MAG1 is a quality product which can fairly be compared to Mobile 1, not saying it is exactly equal or better but at least in the same league.I also read about zinc content which I believe helped with cooling and is said to be fairly high (a bonus) in the MAG1 oil.I’m clearly not an oil expert but I understand the basics and I can say that I did over an hour of reading relevant to MAG1, it’s manufacturer, and perspectives of people who are recognized as lubrication experts and I came away with a feeling that MAG1 was a good performing Lubricant that meets or exceeds the requirements set by VW Audi, maybe not to lowest price but definitely competitive with PRIME shipping which I have.I purchased a few cases and have been satisfied so far. And again, factoring in the delivery to my door with PRIME, I feel the cost is equal or better than other options that I would have to go to the store in order to get a lower cost.

I bought it from Amazon for my 2011 VW CC Sport 2.0 Turbo. Ordering and the delivery from Amazon were excellent. It was very easy for my mechanic to change the oil in 20 minutes. The quality of oil appears to be very good. Only time will tell. The engine is smooth and quiet at idle. With dealer's Castrol Edge synthetic 5W-40, I lost about 1 quart oil after 4k miles. I believe it is expected for a VW to burn a little oil per the owner’s manual. I hope not to burn oil with this Mag 1. Good value for the money!

Good oil for VW, quiet engine, happy human!
Bought this on a whim, since I did not feel like paying Castrol prices on that day (5W-40, synthetic). The Mag1 appeared to meet the OEM requirements for my 2007 Passat B6, so I decided to give it a shot. Started using it about 2 months ago and I can confirm the engine is NOTICEABLY quieter (engine noise level is one of the things I don't like about my car). I can only assume that's a good thing for the engine as well, not only for my ears. Very happy with my choice, will continue to buy this brand – my VW is (shockingly) @ 153,000 miles right now, hope it'll continue to serve me for another 50k or so (at least). I'm using it w/ the Mann (OEM brand) oil filter, replacing both 2x/ year (roughly each 6-7k miles), when swapping summer/ winter wheels.

Huge problem
When you remove the cap there is a clear gel like membrane meant to act as a seal. The problem is this membrane turns to goo/slime over time. When you do use the oil, there is a high risk of pouring this goo into the engine which could clog the oil intake. Its clear so when it falls in the oil you can't see it. When you do find it in place, its difficult to be sure you have removed it all. Just not worth the risk.Even though I have used this oil for 50K miles, who knows if its really any good....the same can be said for any oil. Without testing, its all just claims. But I have no reason to believe it is not good oil.

Best hidden jewel
Who wants to pay for well known brand for their advertising cost and inferior products? I don't.I have used Mobil 1, Rotella T6, and other brand name oil products. None of the competitors can live up to Mag1 Full Synthetic with TBN 12 and cost twice the price. Why took me so long to find such a great product with awesome price on Amazon. Finally somebody like Mag1 figure out how to retain ZDDP in their oil and not burn it off to damage catalytic converter. This oil increases 2 MPG for my Subaru WRX turbo engine, smooth like butter, and quiet as a deaf person can hear. I'm putting this oil in all my cars because I'm in love with this product.

Excellent quality at a great price
An excellent fully synthetic oil at a low price. (I guess they don't need to pass the cost of a massive advertising budget to the consumer). Lower oil consumption in my Audi A4 compared to Motul X-cess 8100 and Pennzoil Platinum Euro. Mag 1 says it meets or exceeds the VW 502.00 specification but they haven't bothered getting on Audi/VW's list of approved oils. I'm out of warranty now anyway so I'll stick with Mag 1.

Cheap price but not cheap oil
I bought this to try out on an oil change for my BMW. I have not noticed any difference between this and the Mobil1 I had been using. Time will ultimately tell but right now, it seems like a pretty good choice.

Does what it's supposed to do
I bought this for my 2000 VW Jetta that specs 5W-40, ACEA A3/B4, or VW 502.00. This covers all. So far my car has been running smoothly and I noticed that it has less noise at all RPM range than the SuperTech 10W-40 I had in it, which was also made by WPP (maker of Mag1). I plan to keep this for 10k miles OCI, which to me is 6 months. The nice thing about this oil other than the price (vs. $50 for Mobil 1 0W-40, Pennzoil Ultra 5W-40, and German Castrol 0W-30) is that it's a thin 5W-40 with only 12.95 cSt at 100C. Other oils in the same grade around 13.5. This is almost as thin as German Castrol which is 12.2 cSt.
