This is the definitive Bonham roadmap
Wow!!! Finally a comprehensive, in-depth, well thought out, and accurate road map for those of us who love Bonham and have been trying for years to learn as much as possible about his playing techniques. For years I thought I was playing a lot of Zeppelin tunes accurately and decided to purchase this book to see if I was missing anything... and I was! I've been going through, song-by-song, and re-learning many of these grooves and can hear / feel a tremendous improvement above what I was doing before. It has also become a really fun way to ramp up my practicing which, after 25 years, definitely needs a kick. In my opinion, this is the definitive & only guide available for Bonham fans.

Review of 'Drum Techniques of Led Zepplin'
At first glance the title is a bit confusing as this is purely a book about the work of John Bonham; regardless I was anxious to receive it. After a few early glances the only disappointment was the exclusion of 'rock n roll' yet after an initial read there was no doubt that this is a valuable resource for any drummer. Right from the introduction the author Joe Bergamini informs and educates the reader about the man. The style of the book provides an authenticity and respect which is articulate and authoritative and sets the book up as something special. Every track has a paragraph about things to note, which adds further insight if you want to really absorb Bonzo's playing. The transcriptions are at an advanced level which require a decent reading ability but for the diligent drummer invaluable knowledge. There are no glossy colour pics here just good honest study material, a must have instructional book that I'm fortunate to now own.

Discover Led Zeppelin, again!
This was one of the best purchases I have ever made! I have played drums on an off for over 30 years. I recently got back into playing again this year. I have been a Led Zeppelin fan since the early 80's. When I starting playing my influences were Ringo Starr , Keith Moon and Ginger Baker. I won't forget one weekend when the local radio station had a special on rock drummers. At the end of the show they had a special tribute to John Bonham. I must admit I had never listened to Led Zeppelin that much, in fact the few times previously I heard "Stairway to Heaven", I thought it was "Rush". I remember they started the show with "Good Times, Bad Times", my first reaction was, "Wow! There is no way one person can be making all that sound; it must be studio tricks or something." Then as the show progressed and more of Led Zeppelins music played, I was completely floored by the drumming of John Bonham. I was a fan from that moment on! Joe Bergamini did an excellent job of transcribing, as I listened to the songs and followed the music, I was amazed at how much I had missed over the years, little things like the slight opening of the hi-hat on certain parts of "Dazed and Confused" was one example of something I had never heard. This book not only helped my drumming but fine tuned my ear, it was like discovering Led Zeppelin all over again! Thank you Joe, this book and "Realistic Rock ", by Carmine Appice are now my two favorites in my drum library. One tip, take it to your local office supply store and have it spiral bound, makes it easier to place on a music stand or sit on your floor tom if you are working on the beats without the fills.

Note for Note
Read while listening to catch any unclear thing in the notation. Very accurate to recordings.

Painstaking transcription, commentary a plus
Compared to other sheet music books, this one had a nice plus - the commentary by the author in front of each Zeppelin album, giving some insight as to what Bonham did, how you might think of styling the piece, etc... Not alot of words, one paragraph per song, but I found it useful. The transcriptions show alot more notes than I remember hearing, so I went back and listened to alot of the songs and I conclude that the author really took care in being careful to get as close to possible as to what was recorded. This is the second edition, it seems, revised in 2005. Fwiw, I am not a pro drummer by any means.

A very difficult, but good book
This is a really good price for a book with so many good songs. I am a beginner and have been playing for under a month. I read some of these reviews about this book being too difficult for a beginner and ignored them. I came to find out that those reviews were not kidding. I can play the first 8 measures of the ocean, and that is about it from this book. I'm not disappointed that I bought this just because it is difficult. I am still actually glad that I got this book. It's something I'm going to put away and aspire to be able to play somewhere along down the road. Great price for a quality book with some of the greatest songs of all time.
