A great tool for finding water damage in (or under) hardwood floors
I had a leak in my house that damaged a 6x10 foot area of hardwood floor. This "Dr.meter" Wood Moisture Meter helped me pinpoint all the water under the floor, so I could tell how many boards to pull up. It's as easy to use as a stud-finder.I had a water remediation company come out, so I compared the Dr.meter to their $650 ProtiMeter SurveyMaster, and the results were essentially identical. The only shortcoming was that this only has a 0% - 35% reading for hardwood floors, versus the ProtiMeter's 0001-9999 relative readings; but it really didn't matter for real-life use. My undamaged hardwood floors measured 7% - 11% moisture content, and the slightly damp areas measured about 12% - 20%, and the wet moldy areas measured about 21% - 35%. I marked the bad areas with blue painter's tape, then started pulling up the flooring. Once I pulled the boards up, I could easily see the water staining on the sub-floor, which matched my tape marks, proving that the meter accurately found all the wet damaged areas! It worked equally well for drywall; the meter showed no water got into my walls. The water remediation company pulled out the drywall anyway, just in case, but it turns out that the meter was correct. If they had just pulled the bottom two inches of drywall, we could have easily patched it and covered the area with baseboard, but now I need a contractor to rebuild my walls, as well as the floor.Note that the pins only measure as far as you can press them into the wood (or sheetrock, or carpet), so if the top side of the wood is dry, the pins probably won't measure any moisture. The "pinless" (wireless) measurement is much better for finding hidden water between the floorboards and the subfloor (or drywall), but it can only read water down to about 0.8 inches, so it won't see really deep damage in studs or floor joists. There are more expensive detectors that can detect water up to 4 inches down.I discovered that even the industrial dehumidifiers and fans from the water remediation company can only dry surface moisture and carpets; once water gets underneath floorboards you really have no choice but to rip it up. Having a moisture meter really helps determine the extent of the damage before you start any demolition. Overall, an inexpensive but really handy tool that every homeowner should have!

Best moisture meter I’ve purchased!
I’ve purchased multiple moisture meters & most of them are inaccurate, break after a short period of time or are humongous so hard to measure where I need to measure. THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT! It has been reliable, accurate & the only moisture meter that works 100% of the time. It’s super easy & not complicated & has a very long battery life. If you want a work horse & can go head to head with more expensive moisture meters & be more accurate & reliable then BUY THIS ONE YOU WON’T BE SORRY!

Affordable, easy to use moisture meter
I often work with wood that has been cut within a year or so and I live in a very humid environment. The combination of these things definitely requires me to use a moisture meter for my woodworking projects. This particular moisture meter is actually a pretty good deal given the price point. Yes, there are pros and cons, but I believe the pros far outweigh the cons here.Pros:1. Price point - The price of this moisture meter is the true seller here.2. Scanning (pinless) - It may just be me, but I do not like using meters with pins. Yes, this meter does have pins if that method is desired, however, I find it much easier and quicker to scan the pieces I work with.3. Multi-material selection - The meter allows for selection of 4 different types of material (softwood, hardwood, masonry, drywall). To be honest, I've only used the hardwood setting here, since I tend to mostly work with hardwood material.4. Ease of use - The tool itself is easy to use, large buttons, and easy to read screen.Cons:1. Inability to further refine material selection - I've used other meters that allow for selecting type of material. For example, black walnut and white oak are quite different from a density perspective. Both these materials are hardwoods, but will yield different results with the meter.2. Compared to other meters I've used, the meter tends to read a little high - This could be a result of lack of refining material selection.Summary:I believe this moisture meter is a good tool to use for woodworking. It will not be as accurate as the more expensive, hundreds-of-dollar meters, but that's the nature of the minimal material selection. It gets the job done and works great especially when you can compare the results to a piece that you know is dry. If the end goal is to find moisture behind a wall, there is no complaint here. I, however, use it for woodworking so I had to compare my results to hardwood that is already dried.Would I buy it again, yes. If you don't want to spend a lot of money, I would suggest you do the same.

Super easy to operate
The media could not be loaded. I got this for testing drywall in our basement that appears to have been affected by water intrusion. Worked like a charm as the default setting is for drywall. I was able to pinpoint the spot in the wall where it was coming in without ripping anything out. Now I can focus on just that small location.I also like the fact it has metal probes to test things like firewood. Will come in handy layer this fall to determine what's ready to burn. Easy to operate, and it appears very accurate. Very happy with this product.
