Does it come with speaker wire or does that have to be purchased separately? If it does not, what type/gauge of speaker wire would be appropriate?

No speaker wire - How would they know how much you need? This is not super powerful so depending on the length of the run, 14ga-16ga should be fine. If you are making a super long run, more than 30 feet or so, go with 14ga and not 16ga.

Are the speakers wireless? No way to hide rear wires across the room

The speakers are not wireless. I did buy a wireless sub to put on the other side of the room, and I ran my speaker wires through the ceiling. I’m sure you could buy a wireless repeater for the rear speakers.

does this system come with a remote control?

No, This is a passive speaker system that is required to be connected to an Audio-Video receiver in order to function. Most modern receivers will come with a remote.
