Mixed Experience with DFROBOT and HLK-LD2410C for mmWave Radar Integration
I recently purchased both the DFROBOT and HLK-LD2410C mmWave Radar modules for a project involving home automation and detection applications. After thorough testing and evaluation, here's my feedback:DFROBOT:Detection Range: The DFROBOT boasts a longer detection range, which initially intrigued me. However, in practice, I found the reliability to be a major concern. The longer range is compromised by frequent inconsistencies in detection.Configuration: Configuring the DFROBOT with ESP32 and ESP8266 on ESPHOME proved to be less straightforward than expected. The setup process was not as user-friendly as I had hoped, leading to frustration and time-consuming troubleshooting.HLK-LD2410C:Detection Range: While the HLK-LD2410C has a shorter detection range compared to DFROBOT, I found it to be much more reliable in real-world scenarios. The consistency in detection made up for the reduced range in my specific use case.Configuration: Setting up the HLK-LD2410C with ESP-01 and integrating it with ESPHOME was a smoother process. The straightforward configuration made it a more attractive option, especially for those looking for a hassle-free setup.Price: One of the standout features of the HLK-LD2410C is its affordability. Despite the shorter detection range, the cost-effectiveness of this module adds significant value, especially for budget-conscious projects.Bluetooth Feature: The inclusion of Bluetooth in the HLK-LD2410C is a notable advantage. However, I experienced challenges in getting it to work seamlessly with Home Assistant. For now, I have opted to use an ESP-01 wired to the HLK running ESPHOME, with WiFi connectivity to Home Assistant. In conclusion, both the DFROBOT and HLK-LD2410C have their strengths and weaknesses. If an extended detection range is crucial, the DFROBOT may still be worth considering, but be prepared for potential reliability issues. On the other hand, the HLK-LD2410C offers a reliable and cost-effective alternative with a more straightforward setup, making it a preferable choice for certain applications. Consider your project requirements carefully before making a purchase decision. This will be returned to Amazon
