Superb George Jones box set
George Jones Is in superb vocal form on the songs on this collection. The arrangements and the sound quality are spot on. There are a few not so great tracks but not many though. Personally I find a lot of cover versions Just filler or fodder but there Isn't many of those on here. Some great photos in the book and some nice ones with Tammy Wynette who was quite a looker when she was younger. Buy with confidence.

The very best, and a little bit of the worst of George.
Following on from my review of volume1,much the same can be said of this box set.A good number of killer tracks ,and the odd dud thrown in for good measure. The productions were getting heavier. Background vocals instead of harmony were more prevalent. He is barely recognisable as the singer of a decade ago.The first tentative duets with Tammy Wynette are here,as are those of the thankfully short lived partnership with Brenda Carter.Generally it is one outstanding performance after another.Even the covers,a low point of the previous volume, are mainly excellent.Throughout both volumes there are long forgotten and undiscovered gems ,seemingly every few tracks. The final session for Musicor took place in July 1971,thus ending the most prolific, and criticised(by some)period of his career.Even George felt, mostly unjustified dissatisfaction about these times. It is of no doubt he was manipulated by greedy management to record an excessive amount of product.Sometimes, less is best.To reassess some 40 years later,i have with just a few reservations to describe his performances as awesome.By the start of the seventies his reputation for greatness was secure. The word legend was already being used. There is so much that is excellent in these two volumes,it is hard for me to describe the pleasure i have had listening to these wonderful recordings.Beg,steal, borrow,or better still, save your pennies. They are a must have for any Jones fan.
