At first I thought "This switch is great!" Now I can't stand it.
This is an update to my original review. You can see it below. After using this switch for a couple of weeks I have changed my review from five stars to one star. Here's why: In order to make this switch work with Alexa you have to use an app on your phone called eWeLink. There's no other app that is compatible with this switch. eWeLink requires a constant connection to a server somewhere in China. When you tell Alexa to turn the light on or off, she has to contact the server in China. Sometimes the connection is good, other times she waits ten seconds and responds with "[device] isn't responding".It's all about the connection to the Chinese server. If she can contact that server the lights turn on. If she can't they don't. Sometimes the light doesn't turn on so I turn it on manually. Then I turn it off. Then, ten minutes later, the server in China finally responds and turns the light on, even though I don't want it on anymore.Basically, this switch is completely unreliable because it uses the eWeLink app, and the eWeLink app only works intermittently.HERE IS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW:Contrary to another reviews, this switch DOES fit in a standard box. See the pictures I attached. When I bought the switch I figured that if it doesn't work I'll just send it back, but it works better than I expected!First of all, after reading the description and the Q&A, I wasn't sure whether or not this switch could be used as a regular switch (by touching it) or if I could only use it through an app or with Alexa. You can turn this switch on and off simply by touching it. Nothing moves in the switch, but the surface is like a touch screen. Touch it once and the light turns on, touch it again and it turns off. After installing the switch it took about two minutes to get connected to my network and set it up. Instead of using the app that they tell you to use in the instructions, I'm using an app called eWeLink. I was already using that app for some wall plugs, and it recognized this switch with no problems. My eWeLink app is linked to Alexa, so I can control this switch with my voice, through the app, or by touching it. That's exactly what I wanted.Also... I wasn't sure if the switch plate was a custom sized plate, or if I could use a standard Decora plate. It turns out the Decora plate fits it perfectly (see the pic). I installed it next to a standard light switch, so I tossed the plate that came with the switch and bought a combo Decora/standard plate at Home Depot. It looks great and works perfectly.

Solid 3 stars
This thing is a solid 3 stars. It functions. Most of the time it works with my echo dot. About 1 out of every 10 times it can't connect or isn't responding. It wasn't simple to install, as the instructions are not very clear. It's mainly just a diagram. Setup wasn't too bad though. Not as intuitive as other smart devices I own, but not bad either. My biggest complaint is that it's super bright. I live with someone who hates any kind d of light in the bedroom at night and there's absolutely no way to turn of the crazy bright led back light on it. It's exceptionally obnoxious when it's having trouble connecting to the wifi and starts blinking. I currently have 3 layers of white electrical tape covering it and you can still see the light through it! If they made it so you could turn off the back light I'd gladly upgrade my review. As it is, I'll likely buy another brand for my bedroom and reinstall this one somewhere the light won't be as obnoxious.

Installation was pretty straightforward. Your wire coding may be different but ...
I first checked that I had a neutral wire before ordering these. Installation was pretty straightforward. Your wire coding may be different but I had my black wire as the "live" and red as the "out" and the white was the "neutral". It comes with a jumper wire for the neutral so you use this to twist into your box neutral wires and connect other end to plug. It comes with the wall plate but I used the plates I had on my wall, everything lines up. Set up with the ios app first by downloading EWelink. I have a router that emits 5 and 2.4 signal, each with a different name. Make sure when setting up your phone app that the wifi is set to the signal providing the 2.4 signal in the phone settings section. Works perfect with Alexa. Just add the skill, type and search for EWelink and add.Caution: The holes on the device to connect wires to are very close and tight together. Make sure to snip and leave a small portion of bare wire to fit into hole while any wire extending out has the plastic insulation covering. You do not want any bare wire to contact the ground bare wire....found out the hard way. It just tripped the fuse but everything was working still after a few "sparks".

"Alexa, turn on the fireplace..." Yeah, I did that...
So I bought 2 of these. One for my bedroom (cause I hate getting up to turn off the lights when I forget) and one for my fireplace. Bedroom install was easy-peasy. Installed, worked, voilà! App and hardware was easy to install once you get around the Mandarin Chinese to English . Google Translated text. The second switch I used for a gas fireplace with a on/off switch. This was a bit challenging since it's only a low voltage signal switch. I had to fish a new 110 volt power wire from an electric outlet in my basement.. I was super proud that I didn't have to break any walls! But powered this thing up and connected the fireplace signal wires and its so awesome! It's so fun to tell Alexa to turn on the fireplace. I knocked off one star for the bad translated text in the app. And also one day the Alexa skill stopped working because of a "Network Abnormality" (an example of a bad translation). I tried to link the skill a few times, then waited a few hours and tried again before it finally reconnected. I hope that doesn't happen to often. But hey, if anyone really wants to know how to use this to control a gas fireplace with a vow voltage switch, just hit me up.

Non Stndard Size
This device would not fit in a standard wall switch box as it was too tall. Standard box height is 2 7/8 inches and this product measured 3 1/8 inches, a 1/4 inch too much. See the attached photos and beware. I don’t know how a company could make this kind of mistake. I can’t say if the product even works as I was unable to install it. I returned it and bought a different product that did fit.
