Nicely made abacus. I’ve now just got to learn how to use it

Arrived promptly, in decent packaging. We are pleased with this product.

Pros: Large profile making it suitable for adult hands or kids to grow into overtime. Nice price amongst the market. The soroban abacus is nice to look at. The colours of the beads help locate and memorise positions at a glance. In addition, it also has shiny brass pins on the reckoning/heavenly bar for this purpose as well. The rods are strong and allow the beads to slide nicely. The beads feel wooden and lacquered making them pleasant to touch and satisfying to hear in use. Not distractingly loud either even when using the reset button. The frame body feels sturdy, comfortable, and decently weighted. With the rubber feet as well this soroban sits firmly on a table surface without slipping much at all. Cons: The beads lacquer and paint seem to have a little damage where beads touch each other. I can only find this on one or two beads though. The frames protective varnish is rushed and flaking on the back. But what I dislike the most is how it gives the surface of the frame an odd texture on certain parts. I'd also mention the reset button, while it does work, requires the user is press it a touch harder than expected. As the bars pushing the beads in place do not completely place all the beads in a full reset position. Requiring the user to "shove" the beads using inertia. But this is not an issue after a while as you get used to pushing the button correctly. And lastly the number of rubber feet is 3. This means when resting your hand on the right side of the soroban it may have a tendency to lean forward or back depending if you rest too heavily. Feedback: This product doesn’t need much to be improved. But I’d start by finishing the surfaces better. Customers will touch it throughout the majority of its use and I believe if the texture could be better, it will be a more pleasant product. Additionally, this will help its durability. I would also like it if the colour scheme was more contrasting. A brighter brown bead against the black beads. As it is, even in a bright room, the two colours blend too well. A difference in brightness would help visually especially for seniors, children or poor sighted folk. Finally use 4 rubber feet instead of 3 to improve rigidity and stability.

When using an abacus, you should always feel a slight resistance when moving the beads up and down the rod, otherwise, the beads will move around with any movement of the base and mess up the calculation. Unfortunately, the beads of this particular product is very light and slippery so I find myself having to calculate the same problem over and over, which is frustrating.

Well made, nice weight, works well, should last a lifetime.

Anche se all'apparenza sembra piccolo, col giusto approccio si impara a usarlo, nonostante alcune recensioni negative posso dire che non è assolutamente un giocattolo per bambini. Ho delle mani poco più grandi della media, eppure confermo che è possibile imparare a usarlo da adulti senza alcun problema, è solo questione di tecnica ed esercizio. Unico difetto, da un lato del soroban ci sono due piccoli piedini, dall'altro ce n'è uno solo centrale, non capisco il motivo. Però se usato correttamente il soroban non si muove eccessivamente e quindi non posso dire sia un grande difetto.
