The unit I received had the batteries already installed and ready to be used so testing was quick and easy. The instruction leaflet also included in the box is written in comprehensible English but is almost unnecessary because this item is very simple to use.There's a switch on the side to activate the torch function, although the light won't be enough to illuminate more than a small area at night. Setting off the alarm is a matter of pulling the keychain section: when the "pin" is pulled out it sets both the noise and the flashing light going. As a precaution I put in earplugs before setting off the alarm for the first time and could tell it was noisy. When I then tried it without earplugs, the very shrill and loud noise did indeed make my ears hurt, just as the instruction leaflet said.So, it works and it's noisy. It's also straightforward to use, compact and light, and easy to carry in a pocket or bag or in the hand. It's worth considering if anyone feels the need for the extra security a device like this can give. Sadly, the cynic in me wonders how much notice will be taken nowadays of the loud noise if the flashing light can't be seen at the same time.

This Self- Alarm Keychain is mini size, portable design, easy to use. It is practical for the older, children and girls when they have an emergency. I got this for my daughter who will travel alone to another city for her new uni life. The personal alarm is about 130db loud, need 2 AAA batteries to run, I bought batteries separately which not included.
