Aligns with American Schooling
I received an advanced reader copy of this for my honest opinion. For context, my daughter just finished 2nd grade, but reads at a 6th grade reading level. Honestly, this workbook will probably never get done in my house. If I were homeschooling, I think I would use it, but it's not something I'm going to ask her to do over summer or something. The workbook itself is chock full of 50 stories, all followed by "activities," which are generally comprehension questions. My kids hate this type of work, yet they all love to read. Here are some suggestions I have that might help make kids like mine more willing to participate, not only for this workbook, but for schools in general: -Make the font bigger and break up the text into more paragraphs. -Include more pictures, colored or for coloring, interspersed throughout the text to break it up (like a picture book). -Let the answers be in more forms than "write a complete sentence." This workbook actually does a pretty good job of switching things up with the answers. Sometimes they ask for illustrations, sometimes it's multiple choice, etc, but a LOT of it is answering questions on a line. My daughter flips through sees all the blocks of tiny text and so many empty lines she's expected to write complete sentences in, and thinks, "I'll pass." As an editor, I wish elementary schools would make writing more fun and engaging for kids. Let kids write stories! Let them do it at their own pace and their own desired length! Talk about the books when you read with them and let them answer these questions orally, especially when they're in 3rd grade and below! Writing is such a complex task for young kids who are just barely learning letters. I think we should allow for more oral responses at this age. Anyways, I'll stop my rant. Overall, this workbook is good quality and the content is what I expect from a school when told it's for reading comprehension. TLDR: It's a great workbook if you're looking for something that aligns with American schooling, but I wish as a nation we'd shift how we're teaching reading comprehension, because many kids are a mix of bored and overwhelmed by this method. But this workbook has a few pictures to color, 50 stories to read with accompanying comprehension checks, and I appreciate that there's an answer key in the back.

Great resources
My son needed some extra practice with reading comprehension. I was not sure how I felt about this book, but I LOVE IT! Such cute, fun, engaging stories for him to be reading. They are 1-2 pages for the story and then questions, drawing, writing, or other ways to ensure he retained the material. Super happy with this book!
