Q: What is the advantage of dx2 over the previous version dx?

Thanks for asking. A bigger ac adapter so that this optical enclosure can accommodate newer user's optical drive that use more power. Newer and faster Blu-Ray are using more power. We make it easier to mount the optical drive. What is same? Same capability, same depth so that you can mount your optical drive if is unusually long in depth.

Q: Will this work for a pioneer bdr-s12uht?

It should. It works with my 5.25" LG drives and there is no reason it would not work with the Pioneer

Thanks for asking. Yes, it can happen, here is why. ANY external device that converts from SATA (optical drive) to USB will NOT be the same as system SATA (motherboard) to device SATA (optical drive). It all depends on who and how he/she writes the code for the dedicated software you mention. If the code is written that uses special functions unique to that optical drive that no other optical drive uses (non-standard), it may not function if going over USB. This is very rare. No one in the right mind will use non-standard functions. All the optical drive on the marketplace uses standard optical drives and All OS uses the SATA protocol to address the file system for reading and writing on the optical drive. What you mention is super rare. This has to do with the software and the optical drive. We follow a SATA protocol standard that every manufacturer uses. If ours do not work, everyone else will not either.
