It's nice to realise you are not alone, and the passion for industrial archaeology and modern ruins is actually a widespread trend, a sort of philosophical passion for things lost and abandoned. This book is small, not very expensive but incredibly precious and poetic. It is a perfect perfect gift to those who have a heart that is mature and has learned to love and cherish defeat and loss.

Powerful and atmospheric photos. Good stimulus for writing.

The photos are awesome (some of the best in urbex l have ever seen). The print quality is also very good... But 1) these photos deserved a bigger book (they look like postcards); 2) they tried to put all the abandoned places they could, with very poor results. You want to see more from a place... Bad luck. 3) the main problem is the way the photos are distributed in the book. There is no apparent order. Some can have a text contextualizing them, and the next one just with the name of the place. These 3 observations really killed the 5 stars these photos deserved.

Neat book, just perfect for the coffee table.

I bought it as a book of inspirational pictures for story prompts for project prep. It worked well. Atmospheric, scenes of desolation, neglect, sorrow, spooky and just plain empty all inspired and provoked emotions and ideas.

Magnifique recueil de photographie aussi poétiques qu’inquiétantes, assorties avec des textes explicatifs très bien fait.Reliure solide et papier de bonne qualité.

Zunächst zur Verarbeitung des Buches, dass mittlerweile zu einem meiner lieblings-fotobände geworden ist:Die verarbeitung ist gut, druck ist qualitativ, mit relativ kleinem raster auf angenehm dicken papier, die bindung so, dass man gut blättern kann. Der großteil der ganzseitig gedruckten bilder ist schwarz-weiß, nur einige wenige farbfotografien sind enthalten.Nun zum inhalt:der fotograf bereiste für diese serie verschiedene aufgelassene und teilweise abgerissene fabriksgelände und gebäude in europa, um die ehemals geschäftigen, und mittlerweile verfallenen artefakte von industriekultur zu dokumentieren. zu jedem ort gibt es einen kurzen, stimmungsvollen, vom autor verfassten beschreibungstext (in englisch und holländisch) und eine serie bildern, die in landschafts- bis detailsaufnahmen zeigen, was an orten ehemaliger geschäftigkeit passiert, wenn diese nicht mehr gepflegt werden. Seine bilder von verfall, vergänglichkeit und indirekt auch von armut sind traurig, poetisch und wunderbar ästhetisch. viele haben, über die dokumentarische ebene hinaus auch eine starke symbolische und/oder metaphorische komponente, wie etwa versunkene büsten oder hallen voll mit zurückgelassenen schuhen. tolle bilder, was um so interessanter ist, da henk v. rensbergen hauptberuflich garnicht fotograph, sondern pilot ist. :)cheers.
