The Gashlycrumb Tinies

I cannot believe that Edward Gorey's estate allowed this horrid representation of what is probably his most famous and beloved work to be produced. The quality of the illustrations (and all Gorey fans know that the pictures speak a million words) is unbelievably bad: Gorey's painstakingly executed and richly detailed drawings are smudged almost beyond comprehension.I bought this as a gift for a friend who is new to Gorey.My own collection boasts many signed first editions of Gorey's books, postcards (I own one of the 250 sets of "Neglected Murderesses" ever produced, signed and numbered), and other odd projects (a paper doll book featuring a bear!) , so I know what Gorey intended for us to see. You will not see his work accurately reproduced in this edition.I strongly suggest that you go to a used book site (i.e. Abe Books) and look for an older edition of this book which was first published in 1963. Even the reproduction in the first volume of his collected works - "Amphigorey" - is far better.

There isn't a lot to be said about this little book, except that it's charming, touching and beautifully illustrated. Very, very sweet.

This is one of my favourite books! It’s much tinier than anticipated but such gory fun. It takes pride of place on my mantelpiece and provides a really interesting talking point. Good coffee table book

Amazing little book. The drawings are incredibly creepy and sweet all at the same time. And the rhymes are hilarious.

The book was in excellent condition and opened the door to the 100 books available by the illustrator Edward Gorey and the review page for the illustrator indicated which books would be best suited to buy in order to get most of his work.

Darkly brilliant.

A fantastic little book, simply a catalogue of childrens demises with the wonderfully loose illustrations depicting said horrors. Certainly something I'll consider buying again as a gift for friends with kids, when the little darlings are at their most trying this may provide some gleefull relief and I know a lot of kids would love this little horror as much as Matilda etc.

Comparada con la edición en español (que también es pasta dura y está impresa en China), ésta edición luce un poco más sencilla, esta impresa sobre papel blanco genérico, sin embargo las calidades de líneas pueden apreciarse mejor en esta edición aunque parecen tener más exposición. De cualquier forma el carácter de este muestrario sigue siendo el mismo.

Compré este libro para mí, ya que quería comenzar mi pequeña biblioteca de libros en inglés pues soy maestra de este idioma. Ya era de mi conocimiento que este libro no es infantil, lo compré como parte de mi inventario de artículos "fuera de lo común". Amé el arte de este libro, muy gótico, aparte de la originalidad en cada una de las frases que aparecen con cada letra del abecedario. Lo único que no me gustó mucho es el tamaño del libro, es del tamaño de una caja de CD, de ahí en fuera todo genial. Satisfecha con el producto.

Im Stile Tim Burtons zeigt Edward Gorey, wie man auf verschiedenen Wegen ins Jenseits befördert werden kann. Dass er dabei Kinder über den Jordan gehen lässt, macht das Buch umso grotesker. Großartige schwarz-weiße Abbildungen runden das Buch ab.Fazit: Makaber. Böse. Gut. Definitiv kein Büchlein für jedermann.

I had heard of Edward Gorey's books through a glance while younger, but I never had the privilege until now. This book is really a classic and gem that children and adults can both love, laugh, and be shocked at; I say can because it is dark humour, and sadly many shy away from this type of literature; yet, as I read this to children, their eyes lit up and they giggled and giggled some more, so go ahead and read and spread this little book to all those you can.On another note, the black and while ink artwork beautiful and perfectly fits the simplistic yet hilarious pros.Truly an amazing book.

Il libro che ha resso noto a Edward Gorey. Belle illustrazioni ma sarei stato disposto a pagare qualcosa in più per un formato più grande. Il libro appare piccolo e anche se la stampa è ottima (la carta è usomano, normalissima) le illustrazioni essendo piuttosto elaborate non si apprezzano molto bene.Bel acquisto comunque.

Es una obra básica de Gorey. Imperdible para los que gusten de las historias e ilustraciones obscuras...

Edward Gorey es un genio magistral. El libro es estremecedor y sofisticado. No es un libro para niños. Es un libro para personas sensibles que gustan de un libro provocador, inteligente y complejo. No me gustó el tamaño de la edición, es pequeño.

Libro molto singolare, con bellissime illustrazioni, adatto a chi adora il gotico e le atmosfere cupe.

Hacía tanto tiempo que quería este libro. Me encanta. La edición es muy linda. La entrega inmejorable y en excelente estado. Para los amantes del humor negro y lo macabro es un regalo perfecto.

Ideale per Halloween o per chi vuole imparare l'alfabeto in maniera originale! Decisamente un librino bizzarro per chi è dotato di un macabro senso dell'umorismo! Tutto in rima!

Este libro es mi favorito de todos los libros de Edward Gorey. Este libro del abecedario macabramente ilustrado con ése peculiar arte que lo caracterizó por décadas, muestra como la curiosidad de los niños puede ser mortal de una manera tipo moraleja, pero sin tenerla.

This is a classic picture book, the style is classic but the concept is not so much. Instead of a classic alphabet like "A is for Apple", Gorey does what he does best, he uses a gloomy concept (A is for ______insert a kids name______ who was ______ insert a way of dying. It's a collector's must have. Tim Burton must have been inspired with Gorey

Desde hace mucho que deseaba adquirir este libro.Lo recomiendo a personas que les gusten relatos pequeños con ilustraciones de miedo, quizás “fuertes “ para algunas personas.Estoy satisfecho con el libro.

Strange little booklet but fun.Perhaps I haven't the depth or had the time to look deeper...or it is just a little 'creepy' fun!
