I bought this charger because the expensive battery tester I had said my battery was bad and I should replace the battery, I received the charger 1 hour ago and connected it to my battery and immediately it went into the smart mode and the display very clearly showed that my battery was already 95% charged and the smart mode immediately went into the smart mode with a trickle charge, dont mess around buying a battery tester to check your battery just buy this smart charger

Purchased for 95Ah ACG start/stop battery for 2L Diesel that wasn't starting. Considered other, cheaper alternatives but opted for a charger that would keep me informed of progress during charge. Pleased I did. Very easy to use, diagnosed battery and got to work straight away. Then I ran into the issue a couple of people have mentioned, seemed to get stuck at 95% for hours. Revisited the instructions which say charger will show error if charge does not complete in 24h, so left it to run overnight and in the meantime contacted Maypole directly by email. Response from Lea at Maypole first thing next morning, very helpful; "Dependent upon the battery condition and age it may not accept what the charger considers to be a 100% charge. Also if the battery remains connected to the vehicle whilst being charged then the electrical load of the vehicle systems may prevent the battery reaching optimum capacity. If 95% charge capacity is achieved I would be content the battery is healthy and would not expect any difficulties in starting the vehicle." As this arrived in my inbox, returned to the car after 23hrs and charge was complete, 100%. If you get the 95% issue, stick with it and let it complete the 24h. Car starting reliably. Can't fault the product, can't fault the people and will recommend to others.

So far, so good - the Maypole has managed to recover a battery that I thought was scrap, and charged a couple of other average condition batteries too. I did wonder about the lack of ventilation (no doubt a requirement to achieve its high ingress protection rating) leading to overheating, but no issues with this so far. This charger has a lot to live up to though. My previous charger (a Gunson automatic charger) had just given up after 30 years of faultless service (and some rough use). However, the Maypole experience didn’t get off to the best of starts. The charger arrived on Saturday morning, which was fast and really helpful (for which thank you Amazon). However, on unpacking it was immediately apparent that something was amiss. There was a definite rattle coming from the charger. As I had jobs piling up where the charger was required, I couldn’t wait for a replacement so had to get on and investigate. I found a ‘spare’ pcb mounting nut just rattling around inside the unit. I hadn’t come loose and clearly wasn’t needed. Probably would’ve wrecked the unit (by causing a short) had I decided to use it without checking. Makes you wonder if there’s a disgruntled worker trying to sabotage units. Perhaps more importantly where is the quality assurance check? I knew as soon as I began to unpack the unit that something wasn’t right.

An easy to use item worth the reasonable price highly recommended.

I had not use my vehicle for around 10 weeks due to the recent events of covid-19.When I went to start my car ,the battery was dead as a dodo.I look at all the battery chargers and the top ones were quite expensive and as I only wanted to charge my battery (which is something you might do in a blue moon) I looked at the top 10 best chargers for 2019 and noticed that the Maypole was in the top half and priced competitively at half the price of its competitors so I decided to take the plunge.It arrived within 3 days but I decided to take the battery off from the car the following day and started to charge it from 9 am until 9 pm.By this time it had charged to 80 per cent.I switched it off as I did not want to leave the charger unattended during the night.The next morning I switched it on again at 7 am for a further 3 hours and by then it was charged to 95 per cent which was fine by me.Went and fitted it in and my car started first time.I could have called the RAC when my battery was flat but because of covid-19 I did not want to have to drive the car in order to give the battery a boost for an hour or so .I decided that buying the Maypole Charger was the best option.Great little bit of kit at a very reasonable price.I am glad I purchased it and it really solved my problem .I shall keep it for the winter months when I could give the battery a boost.

Excellent product. I contacted MAYPOLE and they confirmed that this unit could be connected permanently to my car (Not whilst it is being driven, obviously) to keep my battery fully charged. I replaced the crocodile clips with a SAE plug to connect with a similar plug connected to my battery so I could disconnect externally. I decided that I did not need to charge the battery for 24 hours so included a timer and it charges for 7 hrs per day overnight (Economy 7). As I did not want to leave it out in the rain, I bought a D-Line waterproof box and this works perfectly. See photos

Have used this several times. Seemed very good, but the battery condition readout was never accurate and now the charger lights up when turned on but then cycles though starting, stopping, starting etc and is completely useless. Don't buy.

Easy to use - Basically clip to the battery terminals or charging points on the car engine and switch on the power. The charger will do everything else automatically. Good solid construction and easy view display. Does all 12v Lead Acid Battery types. Very happy with this product and it arrived super fast !!
