THE DRAWING IDEAS BOOK

As an artist who suffers from block more than non-block, I found this to be an easy to read, well thought out extensive list of ideas. It may seem really obvious to some to put a section recommending coloured pencils or using collage in a book squarely aimed at a niche of people who have lost count how magnetosphere pencils they have. Yet that's where this book succeeds. By not patronising and using other artists work for examples, the reader in question is allowed to have that light-bulb moment without feeling stupid about forgetting a medium they had simply forgotten about. I sat, pen and pad in hand, and wrote down everything I may want to use now and in the future and I have no doubt I'll pick this book back up when I've forgotten that I even wrote it down!

J'ai très peu utilisé ce livre pour le dessin. Je ne connaissais pas le principe de la collection avant de l'acheter. Principe intéressant d'ailleurs : montrer une œuvre et l'utiliser pour illustrer une technique de dessin. Les œuvres choisies sont belles et originales, c'est l'intérêt essentiel du livre pour moi.

This little book arrived neatly packaged and in perfect condition. I have hit and miss experiences buying art books online. I wasn't totally convinced about this, but the reviews were positive and I fancied an arty treat. The book is small, softback and quite chunky. It's a very simple idea - loads of ideas for sketchbooks or journals, covering media, examples from artists past and present, and art college type exercises There's a lot to look at, and something is bound to start your creative juices flowing. I like it. It maybe sounds a tad pretentious, but that's my iffy wording rather than the book. It's definitely worth a look, and would also make a good gift.
