Byron Sentry BY212 100m Wireless Portable and Plug-In Door Chime Kit with 6 Sounds

I was concerned about the ability of the wireless signal to negotiate 2 UPVC front doors and thick external walls. I shouldn't have worried! The instructions were easy to follow and the door bell worked perfectly from the first try. I thought, initially, that a portable chime wasn't a necessary item but changed my mind. The plug-in chime has to be in a place where the chimes would not be heard all over the house or garden. So the portable chimes are an excellent extra! The bell push has survived the hard driving rain so far, so I have every hope it will continue to do so! The only negative has nothing to do with the chimes and everything to do with our mega insulated house- most people ringing the bell can't hear it ringing in the house! I guess that is normal nowadays!

I bought this door chime about a couple of weeks ago and am on the whole very happy with it.Pros are:- Compact - therefore easy to hide in the room- Initial set - it is is quick and easy. Took me 5 minutes to set up both chimes and the bell push.- Good range - have tested through about 25 meters including multiple walls- Clarinet tune - it is quirky and unique and I quite like it- Volume control - it is easy to use and well calibrated. The loudest setting is quite loud and the quietest setting is quiet yet loud enough to be heard within 3-4 meters in the same room.Cons are:- Sound quality - It is mediocre. The mediocre quality is noticeable in all tunes except the clarinet tune.- Portable chime is not moutable - I would have preferred if the portable chime had 1-2 slots at the back to mount on a wall. This is not a major issue though because the portable chime is quite lightweight and can easily be mounted using velcro.

At last found a bell that actual does what it says it does, works in the garden its loud and compact looks good quality and is worth every penny, very pleased with it up to now, lets see if it gets through the winter months! We were recommended it by our friend as we had bought three bells priced at various prices 7.95 12.95 20.95 the price of the Byron seemed very expensive but it works so watch this space Jenny from Bury

This door chime kit arrived quickly, was simple to install, and works exactly as expected.I wanted something to plug in upstairs where I previously couldn't hear the doorbell very well, plus a portable unit I can take outside in the garden with me when I am outside but expecting a delivery.My previous cordless doorchime had the problem of getting out of range too easily, and the battery going often leaving me with no warning it wasn't working.This one us much superior and means if I am in the house I won't miss a caller no matter where I am. The units look neat and unobtrusive in use. There is a choice of tones. I've had no interference from anything else wireless in the house. I would recommend this!

Needed a portable unit to put on the hall table and a second plug in by the back door in case I was in the garden. The seller sent me the updated Byron BY246 which replaced the BY212 (thank you very much). It does the job well, quite deep tones on the Westminster chimes from a small neat unit. Overall very good value for money.

When it works this product is good but the bell push has been unreliable. It worked only intermittently. This has been extremely frustrating... what visitors have we missed?? To return the bell push would leave us without a bell altogether and it is almost impossible to remove the back from the UPVc because of the very effective adhesive pad, without making a mess or risk breaking something. Eventually I bought a second bell push and returned the original body, switching the backs so that I returned the new back with the original bell push body; the new body fitting to the old back still on the UPVc. I was sent a replacement........BUTThe delivery note from SMARTWARES SAFETY & LIGHTING unsurprisingly said that no fault had been found... (it was intermittent).......BUT..It also said "Replaced with another as goodwill". GOODWILL !!! GOODWILL !!! They were replacing FAULTY GOODS for goodness sake. What is the matter with them. I would expect at the very least an apology for the inconvenience but it sounds as though they want some gratitude from me..... Well, SMARTWARES it doesn't work like that.YES, I'm a 'Grumpy Old Man' who doesn't like being messed about.

Bought this Byron door bell to replace an old Friedland one which had given sterling service for many years before giving up the ghost. This Byron one is good - pretty loud, and has the useful combination of one battery operated chime unit that you can carry around anywhere in the house, and one mains operated that will never need the batteries replacing. And all the units feel solid and of good quality, The only downside as far as I'm concerned is that there are only some 6 ring tones to choose from, and almost all of them sound like church bells. And when the bell does ring, it sounds a bit like an MP3 playing rather than the old Friedland one which sounded like a real door bell. But overall, I'm definitely happy with this Byron unit.

Bought this after previously really struggling with a very poor Siemens unit for far too long (phantom rings, losing connection between bell push and chimes).So far, seems perfect. Very easy to set up, nice adhesive backing to the bell push so no screws required (but there are screw holes as well if this is your preference). Chimes - one mains powered, the other battery and therefore very portable eg into the garden when required. Really great price - less than half the abandoned Siemens.Early days, but so far so good, highly recommended.
