was just what I expected and was very easy to set up even to transition ants. However, since instructions warn about ants perhaps stinging, and the threat of tunnel cave in if farm moved, seems to be a gift for much older children. my five year old grandson was so thrilled to get this for his birthday, however, we feel that ants are at risk if farm is touched, so he has totally lost interest, and now mama has become the farm caregiver. this product is not for anychild younger than 10 I feel.

Once the ant farm was assembled it was not sturdy especially connecting the two farms together. It was very easy to tip over. Over hall the ants were dead in the tube and by day 3 all the ants were dead. My Grandson was so excited to get his ant farm and after 2 days of having it he’s so disappointed. I would not recommend this product.

My ants only lived a week, but to be fair- we didn't really do everything by the book. That said- we still enjoyed it much more than a gel ant farm we got from Barnes and Noble a couple years ago- you had to collect your own ants with that one and then they all escaped out the air hole. Collecting ants- not as fun nor as easy as it may sound. In this kit- ants were all alive when they arrived, none escaped the farm, what a relief! They actually built tubes and nibbled the food I gave them. Very interesting to watch....and a week was right about the timevwe were starting to be bored with them, so I'd say it all worked out perfect!

Be wise parents, CHILL THESE BOOGERS!! Cuz they BITE! My son (Autisitic) loves picking them up out side wanted the farm so I bought this one with ants. I did as instructed, one warmed up and bite me on the finger. Plus, they don't last too long. Even if you feed them the carrot like they came with a week maybe 14 days. Not worth it.

Not as easy to get sand in as it should be. Opening is very narrow and lots of sand spilled out. Getting the ants was tricky. I put them in frig for 10 minutes to slow then down per instruction. Getting them out of tube therefore wasn’t easy. The opening for doing this is extremely narrow and ants don’t just all fall in at once. I will not buy this again because of that. Two escaped and fell on floor. Guess I should have done all this outside.

After researching beginner ant farms I decided to choose an intro model by Uncle Milton. The ant farm was for my 4 year old grandson who has lately been enamored by ants. The ant farm was quickly delivered and easily assembled. The ants also arrived alive and immediately went to work modifying their habitat. My grandson was thrilled.
