The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition (Emersion: Emergent Village resources for communities of faith)

Essential support for any writer
I have been an avid user of the Chicago Manuals of Style for at least 20 years and I find that I consult it at least once per month. Recently I decided to retire my old and now rather worn copy of the 15th edition and get the new 17th edition. The decision was also strengthened by the fact that when consulting the on-line edition of the Chicago Manuals of Style I found that much of the advice and rules had changed since the 15th edition. The new edition is much better adapted to the times we live in now with electronic publishing and references more often being in electronic repositories than in printed works. I am very pleased with the new edition and I am confident that it will be at my side in many years to come. It gives you a helping hand when you need it most and even if it is a work of reference it can equally well be read from beginning to end. Read in this way you probably will profit the most due to the very good advice and ideas you will get from this text.

More than just a style guide
I bought this for a potential editing job on the horizon as different clients require different editing styles due to their target market preferences. I have the Economist and AP guides which offer a sort of core grammar and limited dictionary. The Chicago guide goes much further explaining the different editorial objectives and general publishing processes. If you are serious about writing or editing especially for the U.S. market it is a must have.

The Daddy of Writing Style Guides
An essential tool for any professional writer who needs to ensure that their copy is presented in a consistent style. This copy was bought as a gift for a writer at the start of their career and it is not cheap but will serve them well for years. I tend to update my own copy every other version so I'm still on V16. Other style guides are available (and useful) with some such as those by the Associated Press being specific to certain industries but the Chicago Manual is the daddy and should always be your first purchase.

No British equivalent comes close
This is the most complete style guide bar none. Nothing else comes close.New Hart's rules isn't British enough to completely complement it, but Dreyer's guide to English does the job to keep your British English on track. If you buy another style guide (and I have many), you'll constantly have questions that they can't answer - the Chicago Manual of Style answers them.

Eye opener
Have to say: We/I never realised how uneducated in grammar and style we/I have been until reading this book.A must have for all [critical thinkers].

What can I say?
I mean, what can I say? It's the CMoS. It's a little pricey, but I use it on the daily for my editing. Underneath the dust cover, it's a gorgeous bright orange. I'd love to just constantly admire its naked form, but I feel like that's some sort of crime against books...

I did like the delivery and all the service. The manual is perfect and I do not have any issues to report.
