This fit my harbor freight 21 gallon oiless vertical black (discontinued) compressor with a few modifications I made (some extensions and elbows to make the filter sit where I want) It actually reduced the sound by quite a bit compared to the stock. It is pleasant with the garage door closed and charging up and tolerable in the garage versus before. Highly recommend.

I have a smaller, vertical compressor (like so many companies sell) that the air filter got damaged during a move to a new state. This one was a different style but, it fit the old mounting hole after I ran a tap in it a few threads deep. Now I have a real, replaceable, paper element instead of that cheap felt the old one had. Nice upgrade in my case. This has a STRAIGHT THREAD, not a taper pipe thread. It WILL start into the taper threads and would probably work but I ran a straight thread tap in about 3 turns to get more engagement just to be safe.

Used on a 60 gallon tank. Made it way quiet. Was not a cheap model. Works as it should. Keeps the dust and dirt out of air. Should last forever.

The threads are not the same. They are not tapered pipe thread like they should be. If you are careful, you can get it to work but if you force it, you will most likely strip out the threads. Also, there is no built in retainer to keep the filter element centered inside the housing. With a little more attention to detail the manufacture could turn this after-market part from marginal replacement part to first class product.

Plumbing this filter/muffler away and behind my compressor with 1/2 galvanized pipe cured my obnoxious intake noise that the stock filter did little to prevent. I may try additional dampening even more noise with a fiberglass-filled bucket over this like I've seen on other DIY websites.
