Great electric pencil sharpener!
I purchased this for my 6-year old granddaughter, who loves it and there is never a blunt pencil in the house now. Also great for artists. Smooth working and easy to empty. All around a terrific addition.

Excellent! Buy of the year
Having battled with probably 20 failing convential pencil sharpeners over the years and watched them mangle pencil wood and pencil lead alike, I forked out for this item. It is simply brilliant. Quick and slick. No more scrabbling around for useable pencils at homework time. It is small and discrete- tucked out of sight but within easy reach of a kitchen socket- always on hand at need- but I usually round up stray pencils once a week and sharpen 10 -15 in less than 5 minutes. Very satisfying. The only downside is that it is quite noisy- but since it sharpens a pencil in a few seconds than this is no great hardship. If you have one or more children of infant or primary school age, you really do need one of these. Buy one. It is worth every penny. 31/01/2016 Two years later and still going strong. It is a testament to the build quality that having dismantled it to remove the "rubber end" of the pencil that my 9 year old thought he would try to sharpen, it is still working as well as it ever did. An awesome product!

Derwent pencils are too big to fit
Derwent pencils are slightly too big for this machine which was very disappointing and I returned it for that reason only and downgraded it slightly. It is a good sturdy machine and I had used a friend's previously which is why I was willing to buy an expensive machine but then I found that Derwent pastel pencils did not fit in. Maybe models vary. Electric sharpeners can be quite aggressive so a tip is to push the pencil in and out very quickly then try again if not sharp enough. I would certainly recommend it for ordinary sized pencils including pastel pencils but remember that they are notorious for blunting blades quite quickly because of their gritty consistency.

Whisper-thin shavings
Excellent sharpener. I have a number of sharpeners, but this one is the quickest and easiest to use if you already have it plugged in on the desk. It does feel at first as though its eating up the pencils at a rapid rate, but it's actually only shaving off very small amounts at a time so it's quite a lot of noise but the pencils are safe. It fits Polychromos and (just about) Luminance, but not Albrecht Durer, and it also takes any regular sized pencils. I'm happy with it, and it sharpens pencils to long, sharp points, but I do tend to go for the hand-held sharpeners more often, or give the pencil a quick turn of the crank in my Carl Angel 5, rather plug this in and find desk space for it.

Top notch sharpener
Contrary to other review, my one sharpens perfectly, not lopsided! The unit is the 5151 (v-8). It is robust, large and well suited to the classroom or office. In my case its ideal for people with lots of pencils to sharpen! It is quieter than expected and mains connectivity ensures it never looses power like batter alternatives. Sharpens to a perfect point and automatically senses when to stop cutting. I have no hesitation in recommending this unit... and £28 is almost £10 cheaper than elsewhere! Great value. Update - nearly 2 years later and its still going strong; never seems to go blunt! As with all sharpeners, a lead can break off inside which will stop other pencils being sharpened. Just have something like a cocktail stick on hand, remove the draw and flick out the broken lead and you're good to go.

Great piece of kit
I love this piece of kit, it has saved me so much time and so many blisters! Saves my time sharpening and pupils' time looking for a sharp pencil or sharpening one when they should be working. It works like a charm, I couldn't believe how quick it was at sharpening pencils. I had used a battery operated one, which did not last long - a week, so I am very happy with my new gadget. It ploughed through a whole tray of pencils, I mean a full tray, in an hour or so (I took them all home in the holidays)! Yes, it over heated and stopped after a while, but I thought it would stop long before it did. Highly recommended!

My pencils have never been so sharp!
Quickly blunting pencils are a pain! Particularly when the lead keeps breaking off and you finish up with tennis elbow after hand sharpening a boxful! Was given this beast of a sharpener as a surprise Xmas present. On checking, it was a bit pricey (at just over £30) but boy does it work! Just stick your pencil into the hole - and hang on! Seconds later a point so sharp you could use it as a lethal weapon! No snapped leads either! An easily pulled-out lower drawer empties the residue. Note: takes only standard-shaped pencils. Some say it's hard to change the blade when it goes blunt - but after 100 pencils or so I'm nowhere near that stage yet! Probably of most use for high volume sharpening - as in a school - but I found it brilliant!

I had read all the really good reviews on this item which helped me make my decision. My first one arrived and it was very dissapointing. The sharpner took ages to sharpen a new graphite pencil. In fact before it was at a usable point it stopped. After about 20 minutes it worked again. But not efficiently, leaving the pencil uneven and rough. I complained and immediately sent a returns label. After posting off I reordered thinking a new one would Be as good as the 5 star reviews I had read. But although it is better than my first sharpner it is not wonderful. It takes ages to produce a decent point on already sharpened pencils. I used it on some coloured pencils that had a small point on to start with. After 5 pencils it had over heated and I had to wait for it to cool kick in again. The item only felt like warm so I doubt if it over heats. So the fact that it "works" although not satisfactorily I will have to keep it.

This sharpener was highly rated for its ability to prevent waste when sharpening colored pencils, charcoal and graphite pencils. It was recommended by several artists. So, I took the $55 plunge....what no one told me and it is certainly NOT clear on the product's page is that the cord and voltage are all rated for the 220v UK outlets....NOT THE UNITED STATES' outlets. So now what??? If I want to use it here, I have to buy a plug conversion and also a step-up transformer?? None of this was clear on the product page or the seller's page. Come on!!! PROS: It did arrive quite timely considering it came from England.
