X-Men (Penguin Classics Marvel Collection)

This is a great book if you'd like to catch up with X-Men's history. Instead of reading through hundreds of issues, you could pick up this copy, read their selection of key stories and have a great understanding of how X-Men was created and evolved over time. There is a selected X-Men readings list at the end of the book, which is a great guide if you'd like to continue to explore X-Men Universe!

It’s a great selection of X-Men tales from the days before Wolverine and Storm, with some good supplementary text taking us through the necessary gaps for space. It’s interesting to see that while the themes of bigotry are not as common as they’d become later on, they do show up in the early years. And to see flashes of what make the X-Men tick. And bookended by Jack Kirby and Neal Adams — hard to go wrong with those artists.

A beautiful compendium of some of the best Silver Age stories.

This is the kind of volume that is meant to look nice on a bookshelf. The pages have a nice golden color, the hardcover is red, and the editorial stuff by Ben Saunders claims to be scholarly. But far from being scholarly, it tells what readers already know about the X-Men. Although the volume does follow a chronology, it doesn’t have every issue for the period that it covers, but only selected issues. However, it is nice to see a wide range of artists who illustrated these comics from legendary Jack Kirby to Neal Adams. This latter aspect was a plus. It was Ok for me, but I’m not impressed by the collection’s aim. It’s only a book to rest on a bookshelf.

Amazing read and a great Introduction into the xmen stories! Only issue was the gold flake they used to decorate starts to fall off quite quickly although besides that the print and colouring inside the book is amazing and the decor is gorgeous
