Brinsea Ecoglow 50 Chick Brooder

Fantastic product! Easy to clean, easy adjustable legs, and keeps them perfectly warm. I highly recommended any Brinsea products. We now have all 15 healthy ducklings, thanks to Brinsea.

I rear laying hens from day old chicks and rely on high survival rates for our business.I started using eco glow instead of the normal heat lamps or gas heaters as I was struggling to get the temperature right.Our chicks are reared on a large garden shed without special insulation or any other heating.This 'electric hen' has changed everything. The chicks quickly learn where to get warm and huddle under it as if it were a chickens wing. As the heater sits low to the ground, the chicks cannot clamber on top of each other and thus do not squash each other. The temperature stays constant and is never too hot. If the chicks are cold they press their backs up against the plate and when they are warm they lie down leaving an air gap. As they grow, the heater can easily be raised until it is no longer needed (about 4 weeks).The whole contraption is strong enough for teenage chicks to sit on top without buckling the legs. The top of the heat plate is cool to the touch, so the chicks rarely sleep on top.I have used this eco glow in the summer and coldest winter (down to -10c) and found it to be very good.My chick survival rate went from 80% to 96%.I can highly recommend.

Disappointing. Used to have an old fashioned Brinsea brooder with light bulbs, which was great. Tried this one and lost chicks. Never generally lose any. Suspect it is not very good if it is quite cold outside. Reverted to using heat lamp, although put this in as a backup in case the bulb goes.

Simple design, easy to clean, does the job very well. I have very happy ducklings at the moment.

Works like a treat have another 14 chicks under it now.
