Nice Product that does what it was designed for.

This thing is a total piece of junk. Bought 2 of them, the original and the 2.0 and they are exactly the same. Both say 2.0 on them so clearly there is no difference, they just wanted to rebrand to clear the negative reviews.Major issues connecting these to wifi. Tons of errors, took over an hour before I figured out to set the IP address manually to get them to join. The setup steps provided straight up don’t work.The app is also a piece of junk. It doesn’t work most of the time and often just sits there spinning and never loads. Frequently have to kill it and restart it 2 or 3 times to even get it to load.Functionality also doesn’t work. I can unplug the device for hours at a time and I won’t receive a power loss alert and it will still show ‘Power On’ in the app.Unfortunately there aren’t many competitors or alternatives. Moen makes a product so maybe look at that. Disappointed beyond belief in this product.

Easy to set up and seems to be working. I am not sure how it will be able to alert me if the power goes off, since my internet would also be down at that point. The device keeps track of the pump cycling on and off so you can detect if something is wrong. It also has a water level sensor that would warn you if the water level gets high- very nice. I do wonder, though, whether it is going to be able to warn me if the power goes out- my main reason for pump failure.

Having a decades long career in the home insurance industry I’ve seen my share of sump pump overflows and know very well the cost of repairing water damage. I installed a PumpSpy smart outlet for a customer after his sump pump failed and caused a flood in his basement. He loves it, so I recommended the outlet to several more customers who all also love them. Recently I installed one in my own home as well and today it alerted me that I had a high water level in my sump. I went to check and to my surprise my sump pump which is only six month old had failed. If not for the PumpSpy I almost certainly would not have known about the failure until my sump had overflowed into my newly finished basement.

I purchased the Pump spy outlet for the third time in several years. The last one I bought in 2019 and it worked great for 3 years then it was sending erroneous messages about high water level in the sump pump. Shortly after that message it would send a message water level returned to normal. Trouble shooting with Pump Spy customer service confirmed that the outlet was defective and needed to be replaced. My issue is for $159 I expect the product to last longer than 3 years. Researching similar products it seems they all have their issues with reliability and such. So I ordered another one on Amazon installed it in just a few minutes and it works great. TCustomer service folks with Pump Spy are very helpful and responsive to chats. I hope to get a few more years of serous of this one.
