Excellent connectors
I'm a serious audio enthusiast with a problem: connecting bi-wired speakers plus an additional LFE connection (Rel sub) to my amplifier terminals. What does that mean in practice? Connecting 3 large gauge wires into standard screw mount terminals. A nightmare.Whilst a direct connection between speaker cables and terminal is by far the best option (as a purist), twirling three heavy gauge wires together, tightening terminals with a spanner, and using electrician's tape to ensure no stray wire strands would cause havoc was an absolute nightmare to deal with.Added to this, I lacked the necessary space at the back of my closed cabinet to fit standard (i.e. straight) banana plugs. So I spent hours (literally) searching for the best quality/value banana plugs or spade connectors that would fit in the limited space. I settled on these Nakamichi spades and Nakamichi 90 degree connectors.I was really dubious at first. Nakamichi has somewhat mixed reviews, depending on who manufacturers the connectors (Nakamichi is just a copyright brand with different producers). Tried to find out if the mat gold was indeed some sort or marketing trick, and whether resistance was indeed minimal. Long story short, I resorted to taking out my ohm meter and measured resistance from inside my amp to the speaker, both with, and without connectors. Resistance was more or less identical, within the limitations of my voltmeter.Given my skepticism, as soon as I plugged these in, I thought these altered the sound every so slightly, but couldn't pin exactly what, even after completing A/B tests. I settled on the fact that I was being skeptical, and that using spades and 90 degree connectors was a far safer bet than pliers and electrical tape. Now that I've been using these for a good month, I can confirm that all my reference tracks sound just as good and I'm delighted to finally have a good solution to my issues. The only thing to be aware of: the spades are LARGE with a 9mm gap; wish they made these in 4mm versions as they would fit standard amplifier terminals with more contact surface (hence the 4 stars instead of 5).Also, the external shielding is insulated; confirmed this with my ohmmeter. So no problem if two of these spade/90 degree connectors touch each other.
