Carving time to time for many years, but I'm not master, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. This is incredible set. Flat knives came well honed, hook and long knife - not so, yet close to perfection. Case to keep things together, strop (look around leather strop around $12 alone), six knives for all different applications, etc. Steel, IMHO, not the top shelf, but not "plasticine" either. Need honing quite often, but hey, you need to learn how to do it anyway :) Beech spoon dummy a bit hard to carve (comparing to basswood), but, on other hand, if you feel it's too difficult - then it's time to hone a knife. Way too much plastic wrap. Overall - for $24 it's a steal.

Nice set for beginner

I am impressed with the quantity of knives (6) in the package, plus the extras-- the gloves, knife sheaths, buffing compound, sharpening strop and stone, spoon blank, ruler and pencil. This is a good kit for a beginner, especially.However, the knives were not as sharp as they should have been if they were to be used immediately "out of the box." I needed to hone them and then use the strop to get a better edge.

Effective option to enjoy wood carving with significant safety improvement as compared to using an old school pocketknife. One trip to the emergency room pays for at least ten sets of these. I would be pleased to just avoid a single personal shallow cut at this price.

I wanted the spoon and detail knife. They work well. All knives were shart. USE THE GLOVES. I strouped the knives to a polished edge. The edge lasted as long as a medium grade knife. Not the quality as a $50-$100 knife but good for the money. Knives not for smaller carvings, but good for hand sized or larger, like spoons and caricatures.

Live how presharpend they are. The gloves really do prevent cuts. Nice sensible package

I was pleased that the knives did not have to be honed. Many times when you order something like this that's the case. I only wish the sheaths/ covers for the blades were made of something more sturdy. Personally I wouldn't have minded an all plastic sheath just to be on the safe side.

I like the fact they fit into my hand. Very easy to use.

Find it very small tools

Beau kit qui a du potentiel pour quelqu’un qui sait déjà aiguiser ses couteaux et qui aime se donner de la misère dès l’ouverture du kit. L’ensemble est arrivé en bon état, mais pas aiguisé. Dur à faire sur une si petite pierre, notamment celui destiné à creuser… bref, je suis déçue de l’ouvrage à faire avant même de commencer. Pour un débutant qui ne connaît pas ça, c’est assez démotivant de devoir chercher comment aiguiser des couteaux courbés et devoir le faire tout de suite avant de tester ce qu’on a acheté. Même avec bien de la patience, un bon aiguisoir à couteau et de la patience, les couteaux ne me permettent toujours pas de carve sans difficulté. J’ai l’impression d’essayer de couper un melon d’eau avec un couteau à beurre cheap. Même s’ils sont aiguisés. Bref, je vais retourner continuer d’affûter mes lames. Couper du papier est facile avec eux, je devrait peut-être me contenter de carve du papier…
