It's a dbx and it works
Gate works well for very quite bleed not so much for average bleed, the compressor works well and transparent. No complaints about the build quality it feels more expensive than it is. Overall a good buy a better compressor would be 3 times the price and I would probably question the build quality of those. For a budget starter compressor a definite buy (if you know how to use compressors and gates). You can hear the DBX 160 sound (when pushed) that you get in the Plugin versions of DBX. Nothing to write home about but for a first compressor, it is a bargain from a big name in the industry and likely to stay in the rack even after buying more expensive gear.

Good compressor, really easy to use with some great features, Its a simple compressor with 2 mono channels but can be summed to a stereo channel with a button on the unit. The gate is very useful too, if turned on full you can get a really cool tremolo effect. Great product over all and a good price too.

DBX 266XS
Great piece of kit, not one of the more expensive units but still does the job. Very transparent in the mix.

cons and pros
I thought to buy it for a very long time because I wanted a nice compression in. the sound it is not really affected and this can be a plus but it is good only if you use subtle. With a good make up gain it lose quality. I am returning my one as it does not fit my purpose but I have to say it is a great pieac of equipment if you just need something to plug the microphone in and use it for conference or thing like that

quite a good compressor and Gate for the price!!
my only dislike is the fact that it does not have an on/off switch

Great compressor unit!
Recommend this compressor to anyone looking for a rugged, tough low budget unit to use in recording or taking on tour. I've used this unit on a 6 month tour and haven't encountered any problems with it so far, its brilliant on vocals and bass guitar

BUZZ from Transformer!
I plugged this in and there was a quiet buzz from the transformer in the right-hand side of the unit (not in the signal). It was annoying enough since it was being picked up on my mic recordings, but it was doing a good job of compressing, but then as 20 mins elapsed, it just continued to increase in volume. No amount of fiddling with dials, cables, or surfaces would solve the problem. It was completely apparent on my vocal recordings. It gets 2 stars, since my voice was sounding good, but I can't be working with this buzzing going on. Not only do I not want it in my recordings, it's borderline torture to hear. There's no switch either, so you'd have to unplug it to rid of the din. I have no option but to return it.

Very happy with this
Very happy with this. It fills out the sound on the way in, controlling peaks, and combines well with my pre-73 mic preamp.
