Perfect for CD owners
I thought I'd wait a few weeks before posting a review, to test all the functions. If you really want to play your CD collection to a higher level of audio listening then this is at least the entry level of quality that you should decide upon. In a age of streaming and blue tooth, actually playing full audio files from CD, still really makes a difference on a Denon unit. The sound is what it should be from a CD and it is powerful enough for any room in any house. Far too many people think just because something is played loud it's good and it's not, they make the same mistake with turning up the base until you can feel you heart coming through your mouth and that is also a mistake. Whatever system you choose you need to always make sure the sound is balanced or you won't here a CD or track the way it was recorded. Sound only needs to be louder and louder, the bigger the space it has to fill and then you are supposed to be further away from the speakers not to get distortion or go deaf, or lose some hearing. There is no sound distortion from this unit. Controls feel easy to use and although there is no blue tooth to connect your headphones to, you can connect your equipment by blue tooth to play music through the unit and you can connect wired headphones to the unit. Now if you are going to bother to pay a decent amount of money for something like this to play your CD's well on, then every good music person knows, good quality wired headphones are a must. But at least you can play your music files from your phone via blue tooth and still get a good quality sound. If you do use something like your phone through blue tooth on this devise, make sure you switch off your automatic standby after 15 minutes on this unit, as the unit thinks you have stopped using it, so it's not a fault, you will need to read the instruction manual for that little tip. One draw back is fitting the speakers that come with the unit, they are good quality speakers, but I wish they would all stop using these wire ends, as they are a little bit tricky in getting the connection sorted on both speakers and sometimes you can think you have a faulty unit or speaker. It took me about twenty minutes to get both speakers working. I hope in the future they choose to move to plug in ends and not thin bits of wire on the end of the cables. Another plus for me is I still have a 25 CD Changer, which I can plug in using the White and Red cables, which works well with this unit. I have no issues with the DAB radio, my area is not too bad for reception. Although I did have to tune it for stations twice. If you don't want to compromise CD sound and listen to CD's the way you are supposed to hear the sound, in this age of compressed streaming and compressed files, then this unit is a must. Yes I know it does not have a USB port, but that's no big issue for me, because if you play anything that is not a CD on a unit like this anyway, the chances are it's a compressed file on your phone, so you will then use it like cheaper units that don't play CD's as well and accept the lesser quality of streaming and phone music files.

Fantastic AVR, Denon deliver again. The best just got better!
The connectivity options are varied and very easy to set up. Integrated the RCD-M41 at the heart of my home cinema set up. Now it's the brains and control. Easy to switch between the various sources. For such a small unit it packs a real punch. The sound quality is amazing, although the SDB tone feature could have been best served with separate bass, treble and balance knobs rather than an integrated digital function via the remote. That said the sound is clear and concise rather than muddy like you'd expect from a single tone funcion switch. As I use the unit to control my home cinema, I've added a separate subwoofer and centre sound bar, further enhancing the dynamic range and sound of the RCD-M41. The Bluetooth connectivity is just brilliant. Using Bluetooth 5.0, connections are stable. Pairing with your relevant device: android phone, home projector, etc. is very quick and easy. Once paired that's it. When the unit is shut down and then switched on and Bluetooth connectivity is required again the RCD-M41 automatically connects to the selected device once more! The remote control is functional and sturdy and laid out very intuitively. There is even an alarm function within the clock settings. When set the RCD-M41 DAB radio switches on automatically at the designated time - awesome! I went for the black version as more in keeping with my minimilist home decor. So in conclusion if your looking for an affordable, all rounder, all in one AVR unit then you won't go wrong in choosing this beast. Performance is excellent. Connectivity is excellent. Looks fantastic and exceptional value for money.

Reasonable price, great kit
Simple. I needed a quality cd player with a headphone amplifier built in. This is for me to get lost in the music I love. I also bought some decent but not crazily priced headphones. The test was Led Zeppelin IV and Yes, Close to the Edge. They sounded fantastic. The detail that the kit provides is excellent, without messing around with graphic equalisers like we used to do. Hear the sounds as the artist intended. Great for old prog rockers!

Excellent little unit
I use this in the bedroom which is also my study and place of refuge. I wanted a relatively small unit to provide background music when working or reading. I also like to listen in the evening through my reasonably decent headphones. The unit is attached to some fairly nondescript speakers from a previous system. Facilities - CD is quiet in operation - DAB works fine and I get plenty of stations using the supplied ariel. - FM reception can be a bit hissy but my previous device had the same problem. I am happy enough with DAB as I am not a purist. - Bluetooth works fine and useful. - Connections at the back are adequate for my needs. Two optical ports, 1 phono. I have a Chromecast audio plugged into one of the optical ports. There is also a sub-woofer port should you require one. - 3.5mm headphone socket at the front. - There is no USB but I don't miss it. - There are a couple of alarm clocks, one repeating and "one single shot" (as well as a sleep timer) in the system and I use these to rouse from slumber. You can get the system to tune to a radio channel or CD or any of the ports should you opt for some complex wake-up routine. - Automatically switches off if unused for about 30 minutes, e.g. the CD finishes or your Chromecast stops In operation - Build quality seems robust - Sound quality is very acceptable, even through my old, little speakers. Using my headphones I get much more detail. The sound is pleasantly forward, with clarity. - Remote is a little on the large side for my taste but fine nonetheless. Good value at its usual price (around £229). Even better if you find it at a significant discount!
