The best western since Unforgiven - and you can play this one
I like some Western films. I like the good ones, mostly involving Clint Eastwood. This puts many of those to shame. The wide vistas, the stirring soundtrack... it's the closest thing to being in one of those movies. The storyline is engrossing and very adult, the action is so fast you almost don't realise how quickly you've picked up the skills you need, you just react in a gunfight and, when it's over, it feels like a real shoot-out.The side-missions are engaging and well worth the effort for the extra money to buy power-ups for equipment and your horse - believe me, you're going to need both - and the enemies are so well-written and hateful you genuinely want to kill them. There are few better games than this for the PSP.

Good game let down by control system
Gun Showdown gives you the opportunity to be a Wild West Gunslinger, taking hero Colton White through various missions to avenge the death of his father. The good bits:1. Graphically it is excellent with loads of different scenery.2. There is a very large gameplay area to explore.3. Plenty of good side missions, such as Poker, Pony Express, Keep the Peace and Federal Marshal.4. The substantial single player experience will keep you playing for quite a while.5. There are plenty of different weapons options.6. If you like your gore quota high, there's lots of blood too!The bad bits:1. The control system is horrible and is the reason that I have marked the game down. As a previous reviewer said, it does get better if you stick with it for a while but you will still find times when you are so busy trying to aim your shot that the bad guys have hit you several times!Basically you move forward, backward and strafe left and right (why strafe? What is this obsession with game designers and strafing? It would all be so much easier if you just turned left and right with the stick!)with the analogue stick. You then have to turn and aim shots using the face buttons, which is as horrible as it sounds. You can invert the controls so that you aim using the stick and move with the face buttons, but that is no better. In a later encounter with a bad guy on a horse, the control system shows just how bad it is as by the time you've lined up your shot, he's moved on! The "Quickdraw" feature does help but you can't use it all the time so that doesn't solve the problem completely.2. It would be nice to see a few more signs of life in the towns; it can get to feel pretty lonely out there!3. Sometimes the action buttons don't work very well; in timed missions this can be a real problem, especially if you have to press the down button four times just to get off your horse!4. Actions like zooming and changing between your weapons are unwieldy and you will probably find yourself forgetting the button combinations that perform these tasks.Overall, Gun Showdown is a good game only let down by its cumbersome controls. If you can find it cheap then it's a good buy for fans of the genre.Shame there's no half stars option as really this game is good enough for a three and a half star review but the control system is too annoying to allow me to give it four stars. Therefore, I have rated it 4 stars for "fun" to even it out!

Enjoyable
Gun Showdown for the PSP is an enjoyable shooting game, although it suffers, like most shooters, from the lack of available controls on the PSP. In spite of this, the game is well designed and atmospheric enough for it to remain enjoyable and worth putting in time to get used to the controls.

Older game but quite good fun!
I wanted to try something with a storyline! Gun is probably better on playstation or xbox but it is quite involving and hasan ambience of the wild west.

Gun is awesome
I am a big fan of the original Gun for XBox so I was excited when a PSP version came out. Turns out with the exception of a few extras this is the same game and not any kind of sequel. This factor doesnt make the game any less fun or make me regret buying it, in fact I love this title its like GTA but with horses instead of cars. The one thing I did have a problem with is the controls, since the PSP lacks a simple 2nd stick to make the aiming and shooting easier it makes playing the game something of a chore. The graphics are great and arent that far from the XBox version and the voice acting by Lance Henricksen, Tom Skeritt and Thomas Jane as the main guy are just awesome. This is one of the few games out there from a sleeper hit release that actually features a quality character and voice actor line up...fingers crossed for a sequel.

Great Fun
If you are looking for something different, this is the game for you.You can ride around all day on your horse, completing tasks or just hang about in the saloon gambling. The tasks are challenging and great fun. They range from arresting and jailing to escorting the stagecoach across the sandy desert where you will encounter the indians. You also have mini tasks where you do jobs for people, taking their horse to the stables ( timed challenge ). killing all the bad guys for the sheriff is a good one, you can earn money and buy different items.A must for all you cowboys and cowgirls out there!
