Art Gone Wild Plastic Tim Holtz Speckles Stencil

As usual, the quality of this Tim Holtz stencil is excellent. The plastic is thick but flexible, and perfect for its purpose. The result is as desired, with no leaking at the edges. Definitely worth the money- all Tim Holtz products I’ve bought so far have been a little more expensive but well worth the extra as they’re an investment for your craft kit.

Ok so I have to take great care whenever I start browsing Tim Holtz’s merchandise, for the simple reason: I WANT IT ALL! Alas we have to draw a line somewhere? His videos on YouTube are a great resource. I was looking for a good wood grain stencil for ages and found this one. Search over.

Have given this its test drive now. I used it with inks and a blending tool and with Decofoil gel; it looks lovely with inks, especially pastel shades, all old fashioned lace; with gel and foil it looks fantastic, slightly raised, super shiny and smooth. I will be using this a lot for wedding cards. Also it is thin, plastic, flexible and easy to clean with soap and water.

Poor quality manufacturing makes this stencil not fit for purpose. Look closely and see the arrows on this stencil have not been cleanly cut out of the template, so each one has snags all around it. This makes it is impossible to draw or paint arrows with clean lines and edges using the stencil.

Brilliant product as always, washes easily regardless of the products being used. Used with paint, ink, texture paste, heat embossing powders, acrylic paint and always reliable good results giving a professional look. Plenty of vids online for inspiration and guidance

These are lovely to stencil with, I like harlequin.

I do quite a lot of airbrush paintings and sometimes need some random “texture”. I could use frisket paper and a scalpel to achieve a similar result, but that is a bit of a faff. Anyway, it was a good way to add some “out of focus” foreground shapes in a picture of some puffins. Not putting the template quite down onto the surface allows some spray to “bleed out”, which created a very pleasing effect.
