Excellent Quality!
I have been a Small Pet Select customer for five years. My girls have eaten SPS non-organic first cutting hay for most of their lives. SPS gave me a sample of their new organic hay to try. The hay is lush, green, and full of thick stems. My only critique is that it did not have enough seed heads. My girls were the ultimate critics, though and they absolutely loved it! I included pictures of them eating this hay with my review. This hay is an excellent addition to their line of high quality food for small pets!

The packaging is peculiar, but the product is good
Having had a rabbit in the past, I'm familiar with the "mini bale" of hay in a plastic bag that you buy in stores. My mother has horses, so I also know how full bales come. This timothy hay is delivered in a state that's somewhere in between. It's literally a box of hay. Like, open the box and there it is. Nothing protecting it from moisture, bugs, etc. Imagine pulling a flake of hay from a full bale, setting it into a box, closing the box and mailing it. That's what this is. And it's just a white box (not the cute green and white one shown), so if you miss the label on the side that says ORGANIC TIMOTHY HAY (like I did) then you'll have a bit of a mess to clean up when you open the box.All that being said, the hay is of excellent quality and our critters love it. No dust or mildew. Just fresh, wonderful-smelling timothy hay. I do think this is a higher quality than what we've gotten elsewhere, and I think I read that it's second cutting which is nice. (Usually fresher, cleaner hay than first cutting.)I'm willing to pay a small premium for all that. However, because this seems to be priced at roughly double what I'd normally pay per pound, and because I need to repackage this in a way that makes more sense for use with smaller animals, I'm knocking it down a star. It's a great product, though!

He Ran
So, I opened the box and smelled this sweetest grass smell I have ever encountered. I went to refill my boy's hay-feeder and he didn't walk, he literally ran and attacked the hay. He was so excited! Very good quality hay. I was a bit skeptical when I saw some brown bits in the hay, but my boy has been gobbling it up like it's candy. He's a picky hay eater, so it must be a "fine vintage" lol.

finicky bunny
My adult bunny was hooked on Alfalfa. That was fine when he was a baby but as an adult, not good. I couldn't get him to eat any other hay, trying every inducement and trick in the book. I finally shifted over to this organic Timothy, and he started eating hay that is good for him. Highly recommend this product.

Not cut well
Not as fresh as Oxbow Timothy Grass and I prefer the length/cut of the Oxbow hay. Our pet bunny didn't really care for it either. Now that we are back on Oxbow, he is eating hay again.

Picky bunny loves it!
My very fussy bunny loves this but when I wanted to reorder I see that it is unfortunately unavailable. Now she's not eating much of the hay that I bought since. Hope it comes back in stock.

Wild Rabbits Appreciate This in Winter.
I have loads of rabbits in/around my yard. Last year, someone even set loose their domestic rabbits, one of which I captured and took to a local shelter. Suffice it to say, it's been handy to have a bit of timothy hay around, and this one seems particularly nice. It's got a fresh aroma, which seems to attract them, although I'm not sure how much it really retains that once I put it outside. I only put it out when it's particularly cold because wild rabbits are fine without it, but when we get loads of snow and the temperature hits the single digits, I put a bit of this out at night for them. They're coming into my yard anyway to pick at what's fallen to the ground from the bird feeders, but this is probably better for them. I was surprised to find that it was just loose inside the box, which was not what I was expecting and makes it a bit difficult to use without getting it everywhere. I'm going to have to store it in a large bag or plastic storage bin because getting it out of the product box itself is just too messy.
