JVC VHS to DVD Recorder VCR Combo w/Remote, HDMI

As far as I know, no one is making new VHS/DVR combo units. So, I was not sure if this used one would work, but it did. I was able to cover dozens of old VHS tapes to DVD. the one tricky thing for me was that the newly minted DVDs played in two of my dvd players, but they couldn't be copied in a DVD to DVD duplicator. The trick was that you have to go into the menu on the combo unit and "Finalize" each DVD. Apparently, that lays down some structure so that the duplicator knows how to handle them. Once I figured that out, I was able to duplicate easily. So, I'm thrilled that I was able to salvage the family VHS tapes and share them on DVD with the family, without incurring the high cost of an outside service.

If you want to share the videos after replication you will likely need to convert the digital format to a more popular formats. You can save a VHS to digital file on a CD but the file can’t be read by default video decoders offered on most phones and PCs. You’ll have to find a converter and convert the JVC format provided for most other devices to read the video file. They should offer many more popular formats which would allow default iPhones and Microsoft codecs. The UI is full of bugs and primitive. After exercising the UI found how to work around the bugs. It was time consuming. I called service for help, not much help available on this device.

The recorder works ok, however there is no rewind button on the machine & the rewind button on the remote control dosen't work at all...so I cant rewind the VHS tapes!
