A Welcome Return to COD Excellence
COD WW2 is a welcome return to what made the series great. Gone is the irritating and supposedly futuristic wall-jumping and jet-thrusting around in favour of back to basics boots on the ground. The improvements in technology since the last WW2 shooter really shows and the imagery is fantastic, which together with convincing thuds when bombs go off around you, creates an atmosphere that you can believe in. Although I play all game modes, I tend to enjoy single player and couch co-op multiplayer the most. In WW2 single players are not ignored like in previous titles. There is a full and engaging single player campaign in which your character progresses through Normandy on D-day to the push in to Germany itself. From memory, there are about 12 chapters for the campaign and each is a decent length with enough challenges with varying difficulty levels to keep any player happy for a good while. Unless you are the type who will simply run through levels without taking in everything there is to see, you should get a good 10-14 hours out of single player which is an improvement over other recent COD offerings. A new ‘War’ mode in multiplayer almost bridges the gap between COD and Battlefield in that it offers a number of connected objectives that teams must fight to achieve. One example sees your team in a typical Normandy beach landing, fighting against the bunkers on shore to achieve certain objectives before reaching gun emplacements inshore. The other team is there to stop your advance and at ‘half-time’ the teams swap round. It’s an excellent mode and can make for some intense fire-fights. Zombies is also back with a more familiar art style to it, although again players have to work towards certain objectives as the hordes of zombies attack in waves. Graphically the entire game is excellent and in my opinion the return to WW2 is a welcome step in the right direction for the franchise. COW WW2 is far superior to the nonsense that’s been offered in recent years and I love it. I haven’t bothered with the in-game purchases which are simply designed to attract the brainless twits who are only interested in rushing to acquire the best equipment before anyone else. In multiplayer against bots, you can choose any weapon and any load-out you like from the start, and when online, all you need to do is ignore the cash cows and level up through your own experience. If you’re an offline player, none of the cash cow stuff will affect your game anyway.

One of the best CoD games in years.
The campaign of this game blew me away, for the first time in many years it feels as if Call of Duty have gone back to their roots - no jet packs or exo-suits or special superhuman abilities or any nonsense, gritty "boots on the ground" game-play. This game further adds health packs as a key component of the campaign, which I think is fantastic as it adds to the realism of the war, (even if it only takes 2 seconds to deploy a bandage). The sound design is fantastic and the character development allows you to get to know each of your squad-mates. The multiplayer is much like every other Call of Duty game, with an unlock system in place - however this game adds a "hangout" like area, which is a little bit of a game changer and allows you to play around before you're in a match, I like this addition because it makes you feel more like a soldier and less like a player in a menu. Zombies mode is back, and grittier than ever, if you liked it in previous games, you'll love it in this one. When you put this into your PS4, however, you will be met with a large download. Players with slow internet be warned! This is nothing new, and I'm sure it's expected at this point, but it's a shame that the days of putting a disk in and playing are those of the past. If I were to fault this game, it would be that the load times can be slow and the grind to unlock weapons can feel long. I have only encountered one bug, which was solved by restarting the game, this was upon launch and selection of platoon in the multiplayer menu. 4/5 - Gritty, yet arcade like and fun.

Perfectly servicable, but nothing special
I've played all of the most recent Call of Duty games, although note, I've always found the campaign to be the highlight of these games. Campaign - The story is quite good here, and it has good performances, graphics and setpieces. However, it doesn't do anything particularly new, while none of the levels are bad (they are all a good standard) none of the missions particularly stand out to me as being memorable. Multiplayer - I enjoyed this multiplayer more than some of the previous games. The maps are all similarly structured, but they are pretty good. Gunplay is a strong as ever. However, I feel like the sound design is slightly lacking in comparison to other games in the franchise. The weapons are all good, and I like the new progression system and the divsions the player can choose from. The new WAR mode is a win also. Zombies - I've never really been a huge fan of zombies modes in general. This one is scarier than the others though, and it seems to have some complex mechanics, but I never went too deep into it to provide much more detail than that. Overall, it's a solid game, not a standout game, but a functioning and ultimately decent one.

One of the best in the series
I have always loved the Call of Duty games, but this one I felt was just brilliant. The game play was great, the graphics are spectacular and the campaign story good too. What I loved most though was the time period of World War II, It really suits this type of game and the story within the game was really well researched and executed brilliantly.

My favourite C.O.D ever
Many C.O.D gamers have criticized this release but personally I believe it to be the best WW2 first person shooter out there. Great Zombies game too.
