200 Crochet Blocks For Blankets, Throws And Afghans: Crochet Squares to Mix-and-Match

Better than most beginers' books about crochet
The book contains a series of sample designs to create 6" crocheted squares. A square is large enough to practice different stitches, techniques, colour combinations, and designs patterns. They can then be mixed and matched and sewn together to form blankets. This book is better than two beginners' crochet books that I bought. It could be marketed as a beginners' book if a few more instructions were added such as how to increase stitches, add zips and creating button holes so that patterns could be adapted to make waistcoats or pillow cases. This book is well conceived and clearly displayed. I have always wanted to crochet a few blankets and a few smaller ones for my pets, this book will ensure that I won't get bored for some time to come. Some of the designs are stunning. My only real criticism is that when explaining a new stitch there needs to be a picture for EVERY step and EVERY movement of the hook or yarn. If there were more pictures I wouldn't have to scratch my head so much. For me a picture is worth a thousand words so I also find pictorial crochet diagrams easier to understand than text as it is easy for me to miss out a crucial step when reading text. This is a brilliant book that I know I will be using for years to come. However, I might just have to ask someone more experienced whether I am getting a stitch right, otherwise I might accidentally invent my own stitches.

200 (More or Less) Crochet Blocks for Blankets, Throws, Afghans and Pillow Cases - Or Anything You Can Make With Squares!
Okay, so there've been quite a few reviews already complaining about the lack of 200 individual crochet blocks - yes, quite a few of the blocks are merely different colour versions of previous blocks! That's okay, though! With this book, you not only get specific patterns for individual blocks, colour advice, suggestions for various sizes of blanket/cushion cover/afghans/etc, but you get the information necessary to create your own. Sure, block X and block Y might just really be block X and block X-with-a-different-colour-scheme, but I think it's actually a really encouraging book. It gives you a lot of advice, it shows you various different blocks and how to make each part of them, and that's where the magic happens. If you like the border from block A and the centre of block B, you can just make your own block AB out of the two. It's not as difficult as it may seem - trial and error will always happen with crochet - and it's definitely a lot of fun.For those of you previously put off from purchasing this book because other reviewers haven't appreciated the 'misleading' title, I say go for it. There're a lot worse books you could buy about crochet blocks, and at least this one is clear, has instructions on one page and also gives you some examples of how to put your projects together, as well as how many of each block you'll need for each example.I love this book! It'll have a place in my crochet box for many years to come!

Very good for inspiration for future projects.
There are in fact over 200 blocks and squares in this book, when you take into account all the various colour variations, which is going to come in very handy in the future when I am looking for inspiration. Instructions for each one are quite clear and on the blocks I have tried I had no problems understanding them. One point to note is that there are no charts. What I do like about the designs is that each one is designed to produce a block of the same size (6” square) to make it easier to mix and match blocks from the book in your own designs. The author has also included a lovely section giving ideas of colours, mixes and suggested charts for you to use. The only slight doubt about the book that I have, and it is not a deal breaker, is that the “techniques” section giving information about how to do the stitches, tension, yarn etcetera is at the back of the book and I automatically would have looked for this at the front.

You really need this book
A brilliant selection of 6" squares from beginner to advanced. There is a staggering array of individual patterns, along with a small selection of project ideas from cushion covers to full double bed spreads.Patterns are clear although a complete novice would do well to have a 'how to' book to hand. The possiblities for projects are limited only by your imagination, as long as it can be broken down into squares! Advanced crocheters will find plenty to stimulate their projects file, while yarn addicts will find the green light for creating many things with that stash that's not quite big enough for clothing!I have been randomly crocheting squares with the excuse of making a wedding present, but have found myself putting squares aside for myself...There are many individual designs, as well as the same design shown in different colour combinations which I think are invaluable as they really change the nature of the square and if you had to crochet up every square with different dark/light combinations it would take quite a bit of wool. All in all a must have to dip into whether you need quick present from what's lying around, or a real year long challenge for your sister's wedding present.

Very Useful Addition to my Crochet Library
The book arrived in excellent condition. Love the the first section, which features a bunch of blanket layouts that you can make with the blocks. I also like the index that listed the color and brands of yarn that were used to make the squares that are pictured in the book. Also like the instruction guide in the back because it offers illustrations with written instructions on how to decrease, read charts, join seams in different ways, and more. While I agree about the similarity between some of the blocks, I feel that will offer plenty of creative freedom for me. For instance, I decided to try the Half & Half square block for a bedspread project. The design is very easy to crochet and I have about 30 made already, using both the plain pattern and dressing it up with puff stitches and stripes.I look forward to trying the waterlily block and the mitered squares.

Super legal
Exatamente o que eu queria. Além das ideias de quadrados de crochê, o livro traz sugestões de combinações e ensina pontos e acabamento. Adorei!
