One of the DS's Crown Jewel RPGs.
If you love the DS/3DS this is simply a must have title imo.Presentation is great....Has a lovely pixel retro feel with a ripping great yarn of a story to back it up.As always with DQ the world is chock full of charming and engaging characters. It's really a heartfelt and touching game. It's become slightly collectible these days.Even so shop around a little and it won't be ridiculous money...In 2019 or 2099 i swear it'll be worth every penny.A masterclass rpg awaits you here ...If your new to the genere give it a chance and you'll be a fan for life. It's actually quite noob friendly.Does occasionaly have that old skool, where should I go now? About it ....In this great age of guides you can easily seek help on YT if that be the case.Buy it, play it and check out the other wonderful ds/3ds DQ games ....Such a lovely series to get lost in!!!9/10 from me.Thank you!🦄

Fantastic game!
Love DQ games altogether, but this one is so far the best - though I've yet to play 7, but for now - this is as far as I can tell, is fantastic.

I haven't finished playing it but I am vastly disappointed. I have played other RPGs but I don't like this game due to its outdated features. I understand that it is a classic but I don't personally like it. I can accept that maybe other people like this game.

A remake of a true classic RPG, you will be amazed that this game originally came out in 1992
A truly classic RPG. Every time I play this game I am astounded that it came out in 1992 for the Super Famicom. While the DS remake adds many things, ups the ante graphically and provides many modern quality of life changes from the original, the story remains the same. And what a story, for a game from the early 90s.Without giving too much away, the game starts with you as a 6-year-old, travelling the world with your adventuring dad Pankraz, in search of the Legendary Hero. As the game progresses you grow into a teen and adult, and by the end of it you'll have a family of your own, all in your quest to track down the Hero destined to save the world from a villain seeking to conquer your world from across dimensions.Along the way you make friends that will show up time and time again in your life, you claim victories and suffer defeats that follow you for years, you uncover the destiny of yourself and your loved ones, and even get married to one of 2 (3, in the DS remake) women. You tame monsters and have them join your party, and even uncover places and people who will be familiar to you if you played previous games in the series. If you're a fan of classic JRPGs, and yearn for the days of the SNES-era JRPG, you will not find a game finer and more well-aged than Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride. Wholly recommended.

Terrific and tragic story. Well worth buying, even if it's a DS game and not 3DS.
I've rented this game before, so I don't even need the game to arrive before I say how much I love it.I rented this through Game Fly years ago, because, like Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright, the marriage system interested me. I don't know what it is about games with player families that always catches my eye (It's just unique, I guess. So few games do it.), but I gave this game a shot.I absolutely loved it. I've since played Dragon Quest IV and a little bit of Dragon Quest VII (I think it was 7, I actually can't remember), but neither had the impact 5 did. It's such an incredible story and I love how much it focused on the entirety of the hero's (your) life. It's filled with tragedy and the combat system is anything but terrible. You can tell they really found what worked in the series and kept it. If you haven't played Dragon Quest before, you might not understand some of the spells, but it's not hard to figure out and I believe localization has made some spells much easier to understand (like Zoom, which I believe had a totally different name, but I may be wrong... anyway, it's a teleport spell, basically). This game is actually a remake of the SNES game Dragon Quest V. It adds a new bride (which for some reason I have picked TWICE now, despite her being kind of a-) and possibly more content that I have not memorized. The game is a lot of fun and I am always so pleased when a story hooks me as deeply as this game has. No offense to the other Dragon Quest games, but not one has gained my interest the way 5 has and I doubt they ever will. That being said, 4 was pretty engaging and 7 wasn't a slouch, either. I guess it's just hard for me to look forward (or back) after having such an incredible experience with this game.User mileage varies, but I hope anyone who is interested in the game gives it a shot. It may be from a last-generation handheld, but I passed up buying another 3DS game this month because I loved it so much. That should give you an idea of how good it is.
