BNF 73 (British National Formulary) March 2017: No. 73 (British National Formulary, 73)

Always good to have if you take many medications or have conditions that are complex.
I try and update my BNF to as close as possible (usually about 2 years old) every year as to be the person who knows the most your or your family members condition I feel is important especially when medication is involved.Knowing that certain meds contraindicate with each other has saved my husband from some bad reactions and unnecessary discomfort a few times. When the condition he has is not overly common it pays dividends for you to be informed so you can even guide the professionals to the BNF to confirm what you are saying. Obviously they are the trained people who did all the studying to become the people in their position but you know the meds you’re on and you know the condition you have and you have spoken to consultants and specialists so you too deserve to be heard and be informed.

List of medications
This book lists the medications available in the UK and gives information about how the medications should be used and any side effects. It also gives details of some of the costs, and if they are available via the GP, Pharmacy or over the counter. There is a enormous amount of other information on medications, and is interesting reading.

The medical professional's Bible.
There isn't much to say about the content- it's the BNF plain and simple; but I personally don't like the new format and find it slightly more difficult to find things quickly than with older editions with the old format (although this is only personal preference and others may be the opposite). Either way, a must for all healthcare professionals.

Good
Exactly as described, what else is there to say?, it could have been less expensive though, after all I'll need to replace it in six months.

Five Stars
Very useful for acquiring branded drugs from GP when they try to prescribe generics on cost grounds.
